My name is Chivaria, most call me Shay. I was born in Denton, TX (like an hour from Dallas, TX) but I grew up in North Atlanta (Gwinnett County to be exact) since the age of nine. I have two brothers, one older one younger. I would say I was a great mixture between a tomboy and girly-girly. I was pretty competitive as a child you would mostly catch me in some form of racing whether that be on foot or by bicycle. Since an early age, I’ve always loved fashion, jewelry, video games, dance, and music. I participated in gymnastics but quit after only a few months in, I wasn’t very trusting of others as a child.
After graduating from Brookwood High School in 2004, I attended Georgia Southern University where I received my Bachelors in Marketing 2009, followed by my MBA in Finance in 2011 from Argosy University. In 2013, I started my company Shacoo with just a few strands of beads, macramé cords, and an ambitious dream. I took my own love and passion for jewelry and decided to create a company to share with others. I’m a firm believer that jewelry is more than just a simple accessory by using semi-precious gemstones you can aid in healing yourself mentally or emotionally from wearing a piece daily.
Currently, I’m in the process of being a fully certified nutritionist to aid in health and wellness helping to motivate others to heal from the inside and out. Through Shacoo (healing on the outside) and my new journey blogging and Youtube channel Pure Shadee (healing on the inside), I hope to inspire, motivate and spread as much knowledge possible on healthy foods, self-care, and exercise tips. Has it been a smooth road?
It’s definitely been quite a learning process as far as learning what quality materials to buy, from where, wholesaling, and venue accommodations. In the beginning, there were plenty of days, even weeks, where I felt like giving up but I have always believed in my craft and remained as positive as I can.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of. What sets you apart from others?
I am a designer of handmade products from jewelry to jeans that are suitable for all ages. Most of our jewelry products offer great healing capabilities and can also aid in the alignment of the Chakras. We offer a variety of styles and designs of jewelry and jeans and we even customize for special occasions, organizations, and events. Our brand is profoundly invested in the belief that jewelry can aid in healing from the gemstones being worn throughout your daily lifestyle. Each piece is made by hand from start to finish using semi-precious stones, pearls, crystals and more. As a company, I’m most proud of spreading awareness of healing through gemstones yet still remaining personal and stylish. What sets me apart from others is that I truly believe jewelry is more than an accessory and that one can aid in their healing process through gemstones, meditation, and positive energy.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Over the next 5-10 years, my business will be expanding possibly to a retail location or wholesaling to multiple stores locations.
