Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasun Jabbar.
Jasun, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started acting at the age of 11. My first major role was in Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns. That moment was life-changing because it showed me what was possible. Seeing myself on tv as a 12-year-old did something to me. It lit a fire in me that still is lit to this day. I began rapping for fun in middle school. I got my first beat machine for Christmas when I was 15. I began to learn how to make my own beats in order to truly master music. I released my first official project in 2018 called “Note to Self”. 2018 also marked my debut on shows such as Atlanta and Black Lightning.
Has it been a smooth road?
There’s definitely been a lot of adversity in the field I’m in. Being an actor, you have to deal with a lot of rejection. A lot of it. Even when you think you’re perfect for a role sometimes it’s just not meant for you. You have to learn to understand that when something is for you, it’ll be for you.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of. What sets you apart from others?
I’m known for acting and doing music. I’m proud of both. Both help me express my budding creativity in different ways. I believe my charisma sets me apart. In my music, my lyrical ability sets me apart. People love it, haha.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love how cultured the city is. There’s a lot of talent here. On the other hand, Atlanta can be a hating ass place. Everybody doesn’t wanna see you win.
