Today we’d like to introduce you to Marquis Robinson.
Marquis, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Hello, I grew up in a small town called Moultrie, GA as a kid. I was a bit of a trouble maker but one thing that always sparked my interest was economics and business, and of course, entrepreneurship. My mother would make me read business magazines such as “Black Enterprise” as a form of “punishment” because I hated reading as a kid. I would sell pokemon cards, candy, and printed dragon ball z pictures as a kid. This was my first taste of entrepreneurship, that business was shut down due to my mom finding out that I was using her expensive color ink cartridges to print off pictures. I attended Valdosta State University for my undergrad work and majored in Business Administration, I changed my major to education because I wanted to give back to my community as an educator. I also graduated from Nova Southeastern University with a Masters of Education in Leadership, to enhance my leadership skills.
After three years in the education business, I felt that there were other ways that I could have more of an impact on my community. Thus, I turned to what I know best and that is business and entrepreneurship. One great thing that came from my experience as a teacher was that I was able to get a grasp of what the future generations of students are interested in and that is entrepreneurship. I started a real estate investing company shortly after resigning from my teaching position. Real Estate Investing intrigued me by studying wealthy individuals and studying finances and financial freedom during my spare time as a teacher. I feel that I can impact my community more by educating my family and community on real estate investing and financial literacy.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has not been smooth for me, I took a leap of faith in 2018 and walked away from my job as an educator without a backup plan. It was just me and my faith. I knew that it was something more for me out here in the world and that this was a risk that I was willing to take in order to create generational wealth for my family for generations to come. Many of my real estate deals fell apart on my journey to completing my first deal in the real estate investing business. My first deal was $30,000 which I split 50/50 with a mentor that I had at the time. So, I brought home $15,000 in profit, which was a little more than I made in one whole year as a teacher. I knew real estate investing was for me because I knew my WHY (family, opportunity to create generational wealth for my family, and financial freedom,) a year after I started my business, my mother and brother started their businesses. I knew the struggles were worth it because it gave my family members hope and showed them that results in entrepreneurship are obtainable for them as well. The journey forced me to make some drastic changes in my life for the better. I had to focus more on self-development, self-discipline and sacrificing. I started to increase the strength of my faith and I even went and got saved at a local church at the beginning of my real estate investing journey, which was the best decision of my life. I am grateful to this day for those decisions and the struggles because they have made me stronger mentally in a business that is very unpredictable.

We focus on what the problem may be for the seller and we solve it by offering them an agreed-upon price for their unwanted house. Another thing that sets us apart is that we are a family-owned company from the area, and we are not a huge corporation that is just looking to make a profit from the volume of houses they buy or sell. Our core values are: family, integrity, and results.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Good luck to me is a by-product of hard work and preparation for the opportunity when it comes. You must prepare for whatever comes your way in an unpredictable business such as real estate. I believe that everything happens for a reason so I take the good with the bad, and do the right thing regardless of what cards I am dealt with. I can say that every day that I wake that am grateful to be in the real estate investing business and I am lucky to have a skill set that can help others in my community.
