Meet LaKisha Hughes of 831 Vision Media in Douglasville

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaKisha Hughes.

So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been working with some type of video my entire life. I started in church. My church was in a rural area and we never had video memories of events and people that attended the church so I started video recording our services. That’s how this journey began for me. Then, my next quest was to learn how to live stream. I started reaching out to churches to live stream their services for their sick and shut-in and their business transients. So, my first clients were churches. Then, one day, on my way home from Jackson AL, one of my workers said you have an amazing eye, we need to start shooting films. That conversation landed me at Full Sail University where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Cinematography. I finally found my joy! Happiness depends on happenings, joy is what’s inside. My first feature film while in film school was LA VIE MAGNIFIQUE DE CHARLIE. This film about ‘Charlie’ is a fun and vibrant film that celebrates the complex and interpersonal relationships between women. Not only as friends but also as sisters. After her sister Brandy’s untimely death, everyone is taken aback by Charlies’ unorthodox (and seemingly chipper) approach to her grieving process. Follow Charlie and her friends Kayla and Keturah as they go along for this wild, hilariously exhilarating and bittersweet ride- which will surely be the craziest day of Charlie’s life.”

Starring: Kortnee Price, Nikki Lashae, Lailaa Brookings and Ashley S. Evans Directed by Bobby Huntley
Written by: Nikki Wade and Bobby Huntley.

This was the first time I had the opportunity to have a creative hand as the Director Of Photography for a feature film.

This year, I was blessed to earn my Masters degree in Creative Writing.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a fair ride. There has been many frustrations and many growing pains. The frustrations come from wanting it so bad so fast. I didn’t realize that I was getting opportunities that other newbie filmmakers were not getting. The struggle has been learning from the right sources. Finding a mentor in Atlanta seemed impossible. But our timing isn’t God’s timing. I say that because I wanted a mentor so bad here in the area but God had someone specially handpicked for me. I went to Las Vegas to the NAB show and met the one and only Shane Hurlbut. Not only is he a guy that has done this film thing for 30 yrs. he is willing to help and share with me, a young African American lady who aspires to be a Director Of Photography. Not only did he help me, but I also had a professor at Full Sail University named Randall Baker. This dude is directly responsible for me! He gave me all the tools I needed to start my journey out as a filmmaker. He is just a phone call away at all times. With him and Shane on my side, it’s only a matter of time before it’s MY TIME!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the 831 Vision Media story. Tell us more about it.
We are a multimedia company. We specialize in film, live events, and live streaming. We make your vision a reality. I’m most proud of the evolution of the company. We started out as a live content and live streaming company and we added the element of film, writing, brand and social media management to our company. The thing that sets us apart is our customer service. We are hands-on with all of our clients. ‘We don’t make excuses, we make it happen.”

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck has no role in my business. It’s all God!
