Conversations with the Inspiring Dalia Wheeler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dalia Wheeler.

Dalia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My oldest sister was who really got me into makeup and fashion. She would always wear the flyest clothes, buy the latest releases, and she really encouraged me to branch out with my looks. Her untimely passing was hard for me but it also breathed new air into my life. I was no longer going to be the quiet and shy girl that didn’t want to be noticed. My sister embodied everything fabulous and I wanted to keep her spirit alive. From that point, I really started or focus more on my skillset, step out of the box, and try new things! I first dipped my toe in the water by starting my Instagram page 6feetoffashion. I would post some fashion looks and makeup just to see if people were interested in what I was doing. I did that for a year or so before my husband encouraged me to start doing more with my brand and to incorporate makeup tutorial videos. Of course, the doubt crept in because who am I… I’m no professional makeup artist! But I did my first video and received some great feedback from it! I started doing more, took a class from a beauty influencer I follow, watched a lot of videos, learned the technology, and now I have people asking my advice for their videos! I have a lot more to learn but I put myself out there and that’s given me the confidence to do even more.

Has it been a smooth road?
Thankfully, I haven’t really dealt with too many hardships thus far. It’s difficult to put yourself out there on a public platform and not know what the outcome will be, but I have received a lot of support from friends, family, and my followers. They encourage me to keep going when that pesky doubt starts to creep back in.

My advice would be to just do it! I know it sounds cliche but that is all it really is about! I think a big misconception is that you have to have everything perfect to start out, and that is not the case. Grab your phone, go outside, or a place with good lighting, and snap your photos! Find your niche, be consistent, and don’t fall into comparing yourself with others doing the same thing.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into 6feetoffashion story. Tell us more about the business.
Along with my makeup tutorials, I also have a youtube channel. My channel focuses more on product reviews, event, and travel vlogging, and clothing hauls.

My t-shirt line was launched a few months ago and that is geared towards tall men and women, as well as plus size women. I’m 6’2 and I wanted to provide other “talls” a way to express themselves on a shirt. I’ve started small with my line and will branch into a line for plus size women in the near future!

I’m also gearing up to provide virtual services to the user community, which will include styling for clothing and eyeglasses, and provide makeup tutorials for beginners.

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
As I previously mentioned, my sister was a major inspiration in my life. We were 9 years apart but she was totally like a second mother to me. She was a huge influence as to why I am so in love with makeup and fashion to this day!

My mother is also a major inspiration in my life. She raised me to be strong, independent, and to always believe in myself. I watched her go through a lot in life and remain steadfast in her faith. She has pulled me up from the lowest points in my life and I am so grateful to her for always having my back.

I’m so blessed to have both of these women help shape and mold me into the woman I am today!
