Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Godsey.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always had a passion for organizing and creating systems. As I branched out into entrepreneurship, I knew I wanted to do something that would come effortless to me, seemingly so that it never felt like I was working. I decided to launch Purpose and Place Organizing in 2014. Originally, my main goal was to assist people in eliminating chaos, just making their day-to-day easier through simplified but effective organizing practices. Over time though, I realized that there is something rewarding about doing the “organizing” yourself, so in 2015, I started a guided online coaching program called PurposeWork 101. This program allowed individuals the opportunity to be self-guided in their efforts to be their best organized self; at home and at work… leading into every area of their lives. In 2016, I did a complete relaunch of the business module, adding a variety of Residential & Commercial cleaning services. Over the years, I’ve also been invited to participate in public speaking events as a Professional Organizer, giving the audience practical and simple advice to get them started on a personal journey to eradicating their lives of clutter.
At the beginning of 2017, I renamed the business: Purpose and Place | a Cleaning & Organizing Co. We now have several services that we provide, traditional and non-traditional, but our Motto has remained the same: “if it doesn’t have a purpose, it shouldn’t have a place”. I really push this motto to our clients and have them use this as a starting point for giving away, downsizing or purchasing new things. Encouraging them to look at the “things” that occupy their space(s) and ask the tough question’s; Does this item have a purpose? If so, where does it belong? Why is it important? Can I live without it? When was the last time I used it? If the answer is no; Why have I held onto something that doesn’t serve me? Decluttering is just as much mental and it is physical, I guide my clients through several questions till we have the answer to help them remain on the road to a clutterless peace of mind.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, I can’t say that starting Purpose and Place has been a smooth road. However, it’s all been a learning experience. As I grow as a business owner I try to keep in mind, that trials come to make you strong. When you’re building a business, that will someday be a household name, that won’t come without its challenges, struggles and ups & downs. That’s to be expected! I’m OK with that.
Please tell us about Purpose and Place | a Cleaning & Organizing Co.
Purpose and Place offers several specialized services, including but not limited to: professional cleaning & organizing services for all your residential and commercial needs. We also provide private declutter coaching through our PurposeWork 101 program.
I think P&P is a one stop shop for all your organizing and cleaning needs, which makes us very unique in comparison to other companies that may offer similar services.
With so many individuals and businesses needing to rid their daily lives of disorganization, Purpose and Place originated to assist and fulfill that need. I realize that there is time to be saved when one is organized and tidy.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have sought out a Business Coach versus “biting the bullet” on my own in a lot of areas. I think by doing this, I would have saved myself tons of time and energy.
