Meet Jendayi LaReine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jendayi LaReine.

Jendayi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My story started when I was seven years old. I wanted to be a ballerina until went to California to visit my Aunt and Uncle. One day my Uncle and I sat by the pool and talked about what he did for a living. He so happened to be a doctor, a foot doctor/ surgeon, and though his specialty did not interest me much, he patiently told me about all of the other doctors there were in the world. We stumbled upon Neuro-Surgeons and I was hooked. I went to California wanting to be a ballerina and left wanting to be a Neuro-Surgeon. I held on to that dream until I went to college. I majored in Biology intending to fulfill that dream until I had an encounter with a Calculus instructor who propositioned me for sex for passing grade. When I declined, I was failed and it was at this crossroads that the trajectory of my life changed.

In the course of following the university’s protocols to address the violation of my professor, I decided that it was easier to ditch my dreams of being a doctor, change my major and “just get out of school.” So, I did just that. I changed my major, added 3 years to my matriculation and graduated with a degree in French; one semester shy of earning a Biology degree.

Little did I know this experience would be the key to my healing as it unlocked all of the previous traumas I had experienced as a child. Having had multiple sexually traumatic experiences between the ages of 7 and 12, documenting my experience with my professor was the gateway to opening and addressing my Pandora’s Box of secrets.

My healing began with counseling sessions on campus and well over a year of out of pocket therapy. I continued my journey of transforming my trauma through courses, books, journaling, Reiki and any modality that I could find that would offer a solution to the flashbacks, emotional disconnection, insecurity, shame, and other emotions my hidden past yielded.

For over 10 years, I took my time with myself and my process and slowly began to shift. The dream was slowly returning. The dream of helping others heal that I left behind to escape having to face or run into my violator. I began exploring alternative/ non-traditional modalities of healing, which led me to Ra-Seihki, Reiki, Yoga, Meditation, EFT and Breathwork.

In the exploration of these modalities, I learned not only about how they affected me but also how they could be used to help others. The more I studied, the more the knawing feeling of wanting to share what I was learning with others grew. The realization hit me. The desire of becoming a Neuro-Surgeon was back but my focus was no longer the physiological brain, it was the ontological (metaphysical) mind.

It had taken me almost twenty years to process, understand and embrace that my trauma did not just happen to me, it was for me. It was for me and for those like me.

My experience and process of healing myself was the birth of a Personal Development, Healing and Empowerment Brand, Jendayi LaReine (JL).

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The beauty of this business is that it is all me. The challenges are a complete and direct connection to my mindset. The biggest hurdle for me was confidence. I had to believe that this path was truly mine to walk. I had to know that no matter how much education I had and how many certifications I received, it meant nothing if I didn’t believe in myself. I had to have the courage to be bold and tell people who I am and what I was doing.

Reiki (energy healing) was my first real step in my journey as a “healer” or resource for healing. Yet it took a couple of years before more than 2 or 3 people knew that I was a Reiki practitioner. I was afraid of the judgment of others and people not taking me seriously. My mindset was still evolving and I was just beginning to take myself seriously, so working through my own self-judgment and value was a fantastic lesson I learned during this time.

There have also been a host of financial challenges. Those challenges were not nearly as difficult as facing myself in the areas where I didn’t have the confidence to ask for what I needed or where I was attaching rejection to my self-worth.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Jendayi LaReine specializes in helping people identify negative habits, emotional blocks and counterproductive thought patterns that are connected to traumas and transform them resulting in increased self-worth and esteem, clarity of purpose and overcoming insecurities to determine what you want most out of life and have the courage to pursue it.

We offer Transformational Workshops, Transformational Coaching, and products as strategic tools to empower and co-facilitate the transformational journey of healing to aid people in becoming their best and highest selves. Our products like the Transformational Journal and Root Chakra Balancing Candle supports individuals who may or may not get coaching or attend a workshop. The Journal is an amalgam of a personal development book, workbook, and journal which is a vital tool in shifting a person’s traumas and mindset to empowered, on-purpose and grateful. The Root Chakra candle is the first of 7 signature fragrance blends designed to balance each chakra (energy center in the body.) The candles are a great tool for meditation and aromatherapy in reprogramming negative feelings.

What makes us different is our process, values and mission. Our mixed-modality process positively impacts how a person sees themselves to shift their actions to facilitate their transformation. We believe that values are the spirit of any business and ours is S.T.A.R.E.D. We provide excellent “support”, create “trust” through quality products and service experiences, are “accountable” to the needs and feedback of our clients, serve as a “resource” by providing healing “educational” information and committing to “diversify” the healing community through representation and providing information that applies to underserved populations.

We are most proud of being a company focused on helping people heal and finding beauty in that process. That is what we call, “beauty elevated,” elevating beauty from the inside out. Understanding that healing is the foundation of growth, JL believes that true beauty emerges when we live our authenticity in pain and progress, love and loss and all the highs and lows through life’s journey.

It is our mission to create an emotional and metaphysical healing trauma movement through dialogue and resources starting in communities of color that have endured generations of unaddressed, generational trauma. We seek to be the forerunner in creating a platform to bring issues to the surface and also provide avenues of support and solution.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is defined as impact. Success for us is to be able to increase our reach, each month, each quarter, each year of people changing their lives through our products and services.

Success is being able to have workshops, retreats, and conferences where ultimately hundreds of thousands of people show up to do their work and be a part of the movement that, “makes healing sexy.” That would be amazing to see.
