Today we’d like to introduce you to Khari Mightly.
Khari, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Business runs through my veins. I started my first business at 19 and have went on to open several over the years. My background is in Childcare but I have also owned a boutique, events company and a girls party/apparel store which I sold shortly after finding out I was pregnant with a son… At that time in my life I was at my lowest mentally, physically, emotionally and was struggling to find financial stability.
I separated from what was my career (day job) as a childcare director, my relationship with my sons father took a turn, and my faith was rocky to say the least. It seemed I couldn’t wrap my head around one thing good before the next thing hit me. In a matter of months I went from having it all together to being stuck in a dead end job, selling my business and preparing to be a single mother. Four weeks after having my son I made the sudden decision to go to England (my birthplace) to be with my Mom and family. I spent nine months healing, soul searching, rebuilding myself and being a Mommy. I began thinking of ways and businesses where I could still take care of my child (my Milk) but also make some money. That’s how My Milk and Money was formed.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
From experience, nothing worth having is ever easy or “smooth”. It gets really real at times. Lol. Finding balance between work, running a business and being a Mom to a 1yr old can be challenging and at times very overwhelming. But being that my child is my first priority and in knowing my bills won’t stop coming every month, it makes getting out of bed much easier.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the My Milk and Money story. Tell us more about the business.
My Milk and Money caters to all women but is specifically designed with Moms in mind. My Milk and Money is a safe haven for women. A place for women to work their brains, work out their bodies and work on getting their bank accounts where they want them to be. We offer daily dance and fitness classes, Mommy and me programs, weekly events and meetups, monthly business and finance classes, as well as on-site childcare services.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in God and that faith without work is dead… I have been working from I was 15 and I’ve worked my butt for everything that God has blessed me with. Everything came with a price and/or sacrifice. Nothing came by luck or by chance. It’s been pure hard work, determination and favor. I stumble, but with God I won’t fail.
