Meet Mia Iman Frazier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Iman Frazier.

Mia Iman, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I stared working for Versus ATL a year ago! I met Leo, John, and Danny about three years ago.. started off as a solid customer and soon we had a solid friendship. Working with them has been awesome! I’ve met and connected with so many great people! I wanted to start capturing the dope people that would come in the shop, so I started bringing my cameras to work with me. I had always wanted to get into film photography but really couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do with it! I would take pictures but I would never post them. I was pretty hesitant because I wasn’t confident in myself in the beginning. My friends became my biggest supporters and started encouraging me to post my pictures. I finally had the confidence to create an Instagram and that’s how it all got started!

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road but it’s been fun! I thought film was easy but it’s much more to it than just snapping a picture. The pressure of taking pictures and not knowing how they will turn out until you get them back is intense.. because you will probably never get that moment again. My struggle along the way was definitely confidence. I started to compare myself to other film photos but once I realized my potential and started creating my own path it became fun and less intense for me. My friends also helped me A LOT! T I definitely want to thank them for constantly keeping me encouraged and helping me grow!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Film by Mia Iman – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I take pictures of people when I’m out about in the city! Capturing people just having fun and enjoying life is a beautiful thing. It’s very natural and that’s what I love capturing the most! I am most proud of my fist major project that I shot for Versus ATL. I came up with the idea for us to drop totes and I had the opportunity to do the visuals for them. That was very fun project… the response was absolutely amazing! I actually cried tears of joy when I finished with everything!

I think what sets me apart from others is how driven I am. I am from a small town in Alabama… the creative culture that’s in ATL does not even exist where I’m from! So when I started connecting with people in ATL I made sure I came with an open mindset, heart, and positive energy! It’s all about what you put out in the universe.. put good things out good things will come back!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like most about ATL is the culture! Something is always happening for everybody to be apart of. ATL has a lot spaces for me to feel comfortable in and that’s what I like about the city the most! What I like least about ATL is the lack of spaces for women who are into the street wear, vintage, and sneakers. ATL has so many dope creative women. Wish there were more events for us.

What an awesome testimony from an even more awesome smart and creative girl….I know exactly where she started and she makes such valid points in this interview. It’s so inspiring to see a young female with so much creativity and drive, and even more inspiring that you took a chance on your talent with support of your friends to create. I hope that you continue to inspire through your photography Mia and continue to make dope photos. You go girl!!!!
