Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah Taylor.
Savannah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
April 2015 I was senior in high school struggling on trying to figure out how I was going to look for prom with only $100 in hand. I will always be proud of myself for this moment in my life because this was the time I taught myself how to stretch money no matter the amount. With that $100 amount I was able to buy a dress from a Chinese vendor on the internet, a pair of heels from Burlington coat factory and some bundles not good quality of course (lol) from a site called Aliexpress. Without having any leftover to have the luxury to find a bomb hairstylist to hook a girl up. I did what most do and hit up youtube to find a “how-to” video of any kind that was going to help me look my best. Before my journey I was definitely into hair but it wasn’t my first passion. During my search I came across a YouTuber named “IVEY”. In this video she showed how to create a U-part wig. This was my first wig I had ever made and the beginning to my story.
After graduation I decided to go to cosmetology school at Paul Mitchell the school Atlanta. Although hair was not my first passion I decided to go because I honestly had no other plans. This was the best decision I made because as soon I started my first day of class I knew this was where I needed to be. At this time, I was still making wigs for myself and some friends. During school, I worked at a local Beauty Supply store. Although I loved this job at the time it was not fulfilling for me. I always had a feeling at work that there was always something better coming my way but this was the first part to the puzzle. While working at the beauty supply store I would always have customers that came in and loved the wigs that I made. I would always be asked if I had business cards, if I made wigs for customers, and so on and so on. But at this time I had no business I honestly didn’t even think I wanted a business. After months of contemplating and customers loving my work. I decided to do my research. In May 2017, I decided to start my business SlaylikeV by Savannah Taylor.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Entrepreneurship is not a walk in the park I can definitely tell you that! My first year of business was definitely the hardest. I started my business May of 2017 but did not receive any real traffic until December 2017. This is the part most entrepreneurs don’t share. Social media makes it seem like over night success is so easy to come by but it is not always the same story for some. During this time, a lot tears were shed, I probably said I QUIT about a thousand times. But there’s this quote that will always stick to me and that is ” Before you quit, remember why you started”. During this slow period of my journey I learned how to properly promote my business, how to network and overall help my business succeed and stay successful for the future. I learned patience and prayer are key as well.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with SlaylikeV – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am Savannah Taylor I am proud owner of SlayLikeV. I am known for my quote ” I DONT MAKE CUSTOM WIGS, I MAKE CUSTOM SCALPS”, because that is exactly what my units give and that is what sets me apart. SlaylikeV I make custom hand sewn units and I also sale %100 Virgin Brazilian hair of the name SlayLikeV Bundles. What I am most proud of as a company is how happy I make my customers when they receive their custom units. My clients are the reason I am even getting this interview and for that I will forever be grateful.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future? I plan on being one of the big names in the industry that is one of my top goals and I do see myself accomplishing that! I don’t have a date set or even an idea of when Id like this part of my journey accomplished. But I do want my own hair care line for wigs of course and natural hair. That is the only idea so far I have thought of for the future. But my mind is like a pet hamster running on a wheel. By next week I’ll have thought of ten different big ideas.
