Today we’d like to introduce you to Mershele Brown.
Mershele, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been a cosmetologist for 28 years, moving to ALT for Louisville, KY 20 years ago while then addicted to drugs, I escaped and now have been clean for 20+years. After moving here, I’ve sense opened and closed 2 salons and now working on a training salon. I have overcome overran cancer in 2008 when I was lead to start The Antidote Show this is a show that allows people to come share their testimonies. we were aired on Comcast 24 and people TV of ALT for eight years, the last few years, we have been on all social media live at different events and continue to connect with the community. Recently, I was sick for 9 months, found out that I was allergic to gluten, I’ve sensed I had to change my way of eating. Loosing over 75lbs has been a big change in my life to eating healthier. After being sick for the 9 months, I was lead to write a book called The Conversation Peace. IT was published this past June, available on Amazon and Barnes and Nobles. This book allows you to interact with the Author having a conversation that will allow you to get back to the table of conversation, this book can be used in small groups at church and even at the house to get the family back to having social skills and putting down the cell phone to see what’s going on in the family. It allows you to think and meditate on a scripture or quote. This book has been written for my 50th birthday celebration this November, where I will be on a cruise for my overseas book tour. I also am a part of a great nonprofit that has been established by my family called Swift Transitions (swifttransitions4u.com) and here I am, over job placement and preparing the person for job placement. This non-profit is a non-profit that provides vocational rehabilitation to disabled veterans and non-violate felons to transition them back into the workforce. I’m so excited to be making a difference in my community.
Has it been a smooth road?
Like I stated before, I was addicted to drugs when I answered the calling of God calling me out of darkness into his marvelous light, it only took one step. It was also very hard as a single mom at the time to raise two young men as a single mother. However, God was the antidote to my survival. Also, with being allergic to gluten, I went from a size 24 to a size 14, that’s a whole person, lol… but I do feel a lot better.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Antidote Studio story. Tell us more about it.
Dealing in the Cosmetology world, I’m looking to open in 2020 a new training facility. What will set up apart, we will provide the stylist with a lot of skills to grow beyond than just being a stylist. With having the non-profit, it allows me to better see the need of community rather it be there hair care needs or the vocational rehabilitation needs of the person in need. It’s a great pleasure to serve the community in so many ways. I also connect with other great organizations to name a few African Children’s fund and Maximum Impact.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Yes, in working on a cosmetology invention and am very excited about how it will cater to the hairstylist today. With looking to open a new training facility and relaunching my lipstick line called Zearline cosmetics, I’m ecstatic on what’s to come when all of these units all come together under one roof, I can’t wait to see this new chapter.
