Today we’d like to introduce you to Kacie Kratzert.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kacie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As someone who has always been drawn to creative pursuits, I enjoyed putting my creativity to use as a high school social studies teacher for almost ten years. After deciding to stay home upon having children in 2014, I found myself searching for a creative outlet. I spent a lot of money and time trying various hobbies until I found myself planning a baby shower for a friend. Since I live by the mantra of “why buy it for $25 when I can spend $100 making it myself”, when I stumbled across a picture of cookies on Pinterest, I decided to give it a go! And so began my cookie journey, which started out as me just making cookies for friends and family, and then receiving so many inquiries and requests that I decided to turn it into a business toward the end of 2016.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The entire journey of becoming a cookie artist is definitely full of challenges. Throw in having three babies in four years and it can seem overwhelming. Starting out, I had no idea how to balance my schedule of only working at night and also had no idea how many orders I could realistically manage working only at night. My second child woke up four times a night for 13 months – and I found myself working until his second wake up at 2:00am and running on four hours of sleep for months. Add in having to function for my toddler, and then having another newborn; even I am surprised sometimes that I have managed to keep this going!
Please tell us about Cookies by Kacie.
I specialize in hand-crafted custom sugar cookies, decorated with royal icing, for all occasions, and am hoping to add other baked goods for sale in the future. I am so honored that I have been entrusted with making memories for people all over the Atlanta area and being a small part of their special events. I have been able to incorporate many different skills and techniques to craft cookies that add a wonderful touch to any event.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I definitely would have said “no” more, especially in the early days! Now that I have achieved more of a balance in my work life, and have a handle on what I can accomplish in any given week, sleep is something that I occasionally get more of these days!
