Today we’d like to introduce you to Fredrick Jones.
Fredrick, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my videography career as a hobby. I am a music artist. I remember filming for the artists on the independent label I was apart of back in Indiana. I noticed that people were willing to pay for the cool stuff I created and it was was only fun for me. When I seen the value in the skill that I had I put it to use. I starting shooting mostly Urban content. Music videos, nightlife, showcases, etc. After my move back to Atlanta in 2014 I continued to shoot a lot of urban content, but I wanted to diversify my content. I would scroll Instagram’s hashtags searching for flyers for events and reach out to people until someone booked me. Eventually, I began to get more clients who had an abundance of different themes for me to shoot. By staying open-minded & perfecting my craft today I shoot for many prominent people. I even employ other people in my field as well.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has not been smooth. Before I started requiring people to reserve their date and time with a non-refundable deposit I would take many losses. I remember filming a party once and I never received payment. Granted I didn’t edit the project, but I still took a loss by paying for my uber my time and work for filming the party. One night I was filming an artist at a local strip club, and when I turned my back for 5 minutes someone stole my external flash. People aren’t always organized either. I’ve showed up to film at places that my client did not have permission to have a videographer at.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I specialize in videography, editing, and media referrals. What sets me apart from other people is my ability to network as well as I do. A lot of people sit around and wait for their phone to ring. I direct solicit by reaching out to people who I think can use my services. I am most proud for being able to be a full-time videographer and handle my responsibilities working for myself. I am also proud of the fact that I inspire others to join my field and I am able to help other people make money. Being resourceful sets me apart from others. When most people can only be your videographer I am able to bring you any aspect of media you are looking for. If I can’t do it I know someone who can. My turn around time is a big factor too. I hear people say all the time ” they do great work, but it takes them weeks to return my edited content”. I am the guy who will return your video to you the same day if I’m feeling good. Let’s just say I feel good pretty often!
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would go directly after my ideal client and not shoot anyone willing to pay me. I would also brand my self as early as possible by making sure my logo is on all content and I am also wearing my brand. Shirts, backpacks, etc. My LLC would have also been formed much earlier too.

HANDS DOWN…
One of the dopest, most professional, efficient videographers I’ve ever worked with. Excited to continue working with him in the future.
