Brittney, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My first journey towards hosting events began in college as a member of Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority Inc and Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity Inc, providing HBCU college students a great experience whether it was community service, extravagant parties, stunning pageants, or even informative forums. I’ve always had a passion for fashion which led me into the wedding industry as a Bridal Consultant. For many years, I continued in various bridal salons in Atlanta secretly assisting brides with a small budget bring their wedding dreams to reality for free. Yes for free. This was before I knew my potential in event design & decor. I attended an entrepreneurial/ministerial workshop “Face to Face” hosted by Dr. Teresa Goggins of Thy Kingdom Has Come International Ministries which inspired the vision of birthing Kingdom Knot Events.
My original team consisted of my mother Cynthia King who was my biggest cheerleader and supporter before I began to build my innovative “Kingdom Team”. My business mentors, Latoria Harris of Heizwerthy & Bibi Williams of Organized Khaos, gave me all the tools and sound advice I needed to build the foundation of my company by keeping God first and kingdom customer service second. Within the first eight months, the company expanded to even offering new travel services with “Kingdom Knot Travel” offering clients destination weddings, honeymoon excursions, family trips and more. My first few events to showcase my work were an opportunity through Chantanell Grayer to do professional photo shoot of a mock wedding for the official Atlanta Doubletree Hotel, a Boss Baby themed baby shower with an elaborate proposal, a Rainy River wedding,10 couple mass vow renewal, & Marriage Conference. What started as a small sticky note on a vision board became a phenomenal Christian based event planning company with creative, innovative Kingdom-minded people. From heartwarming proposals to elegant weddings to remarkably sweet baby showers, every divine connection makes every occasion brilliant. I provide wedding planning services walking couples through every step of the journey to their big day and even intricately design their lavish event decor, bridesmaids & groomsmen gifts, and even custom wedding veils to make the walk down the aisle incredible. Whether it’s the first consultation or goodbye brunch, every client has a divinely coordinated adventure to their Kingdom Knot Event.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I believe every business owner runs into speed bumps down the road. Some of the first obstacles I faced in the beginning was learning how to build my decor inventory with a small budget, where would my team come from, marketing consistency, balancing weekend events as a praise dancer on Sundays and background performer(Dancer) for shows and the pressure of executing a remarkable event during extreme weather changes. My bestfriend & executive decor design member, Candace Boyer(Kandilocks Beauty Bar)always motivated me during times I was doubtful of myself as a creative visionary and reminded me daily that my journey is an inspiration. If someone was reading my story,I can’t just give up on the juicy parts where the conflicts happen. I have to show how I became victorious through the fires of life. My prayer warrior Grandmother, Bertha Sue Johnson, uplifted me spiritually when I felt like a failure. And although I may have done a fantastic job with an event, I was a perfectionist of my craft. She taught me to fight through hard times with prayer which makes a huge difference as an entrepreneur. She is truly my family’s backbone. She coached me through good and bad times as well as an unforgettable battle with triple negative breast cancer to now being a 5 year survivor. Because of her I learned to use faith to conquer my fears.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have managed my time differently. As a multi businesswoman, I was operating 3 businesses at one time without organization. This was a train wreck until I sat down and strategized each one intricately. I would also invest my finances differently focusing more on customer acquisition strategies, test all my marketing efforts, and not be afraid to say NO to some opportunities. Everything isn’t apart of your purpose, some opportunities don’t bring about growth.
