Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Wade.
Dominique, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My company “D.WadeTheHost” is derived from my name Dominique Wade. I began hosting events back in college at Eastern Michigan University. I hosted my first official event with my best friend Briana White for MLK Week and we killed it! After that, we became the campus favorites! From there, I hosted various events on campus for many different organizations that eventually led to me expanding my network to the Detroit Metro Area. From there, I was able to collab and meet many different artists and entrepreneurs. Being on stage allowed me to be in control and showcase my personality and ultimately be myself. My jokes, energy, charisma and dance moves is what worked for me on stage. I feed off the energy of the crowd and strive to please them and make sure everybody is enjoying themselves.
In 2016, I finally took someone’s advice and got into stand up comedy. This also allowed me to expand and become more marketable in my area. Since 2012, I’ve hosted over 60 events and shows, including four weddings, and about 15 comedy shows, two of which were done at churches. I’ve recently moved to Atlanta to grow and expand and challenge myself in world of hosting/emceeing events, comedy, radio and acting and my YouTube channel where I’ve developed my love for vlogging and doing public interviews on strangers.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely some struggles with getting my name out there and staying consistently booked. My first couple of years I would only get booked at EMU where I attended school, but then I was blessed to host events at Central Michigan University and two events at The University of Toledo. Expanding outside of college scene was a struggle but getting referred out in Detroit definitely helped me navigate to more citywide functions. Majority of my shows were located in Detroit. Stand up comedy also challenged my ability to write and expand my creativity, which was something I was unaccustomed to since I was used to freestyling and improvising as a host.
Please tell us about D.WadeTheHost.
D.WadeTheHost is an entertainment brand that allows anyone to book me anywhere where there’s a mic and an audience. I love being on stage making people laugh and being the most lit form of energy they will come across. I’ve done talent shows, panel discussions, nightclubs, birthdays, radio shows, comedy shows, fashion shows and wedding receptions, and I also married a couple! I believe there are no limits to what I can do, and I look forward to getting into television and film in the near future. I am known for my jokes, my great communication with people/strangers and turning up on the dance floor. What makes me different is that I treat every audience the same, I attack every event like it’ll be the one to catapult my career! Anybody who knows me will tell you I’m the same person off stage as I am on stage. I love to bring positive energy and vibes with me wherever I go and uplift those around me and inspire them with a genuine spirit. I love to display my faith in God because he’s brought me so far and without Him I am nothing. One of my slogans is “Talk By Faith, Laugh On Site!”
I am now also available for booking for all events that require a host/mc in the Atlanta area, as well as skits, podcasts and radio shows. Feel free to reach out to me on social media or by email.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would’ve taken myself seriously years ago. I didn’t know or believe the potential I had because I was too distracted on other things in my life. I would’ve gotten into YouTube and skits years ago when it was back on the rise and shaped myself into a media personality earlier in my career. I just would’ve been more focused and dedicated because early on I didn’t see it as a career, just more so as a hobby.
