Meet Amina Billingslea of A Queen’s Touch Event Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amina Billingslea.

Amina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always had a passion for creating, even as a child I was always the student going the extra mile with her art projects to get the A+. I started event design and decor in 2013 as just a small hobby and I only decorated for family and friends. My great support system would often encourage me to start a business, however starting a family first caused entrepreneurship to become secondary. My focus has always been my family first, so I became a working, stay at home mom to help my husband care for our family of four. After a while, the mundane schedule of a 9-5 began to wear on me. I was tired of living paycheck to paycheck. I wanted to do so much more for myself and my family. So one day I literally cried out to God in prayer in search of an answer to get out of this financial situation and very clearly I heard God whisper to me “launch the business.” So, in April 2019 I officially launched “A Queen’s Touch Event Designs”. The support has been amazing thus far, I can honestly say I LOVE what I do! I am SO excited to see the growth and new opportunities ahead for my business.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It absolutely has not been a smooth road. Whew! The struggle is definitely is still very real, but honestly I am enjoying every step of the way. It’s like receiving on-the-job training! Since entrepreneurship is new to me, I didn’t realize how much work and time it would require just to get momentum. Therefore my biggest struggle is sticking to a schedule to balance the madness! As a wife, (working) stay at home mom of 2, Youth Pastor, and entrepreneur it has been a huge struggle to find equal time for each tasks. There are days where I can stick to my schedule and days where all I want is my family. Honestly, I like it that way. I also struggle with promoting and networking to expand and engage my audience. Although I have designed several events since launching, I haven’t reached my desired “traffic flow” just yet. However, I know I will reach my goal with continued hard work, dedication and whole lot of prayer!

Please tell us about A Queen’s Touch Event Designs.
A Queen’s Touch Event Designs is an event design and decor business that designs captivating events at an affordable price. I am most known for adding that special “touch” by giving customers a custom made take home gift. What sets me apart is my heart and compassion for others. It’s honestly not all about the money for me, my business is a service. My goal is to make sure the client is beyond satisfied with the finish product and most importantly—the price. Now I have always been a very frugal person, so I believe in finding the most cost-efficient way to decorate without sacrificing quality. I wanted to share this ability with others because I know what it’s like to want to have amazing events but literally can not afford it. That’s what A Queen’s Touch Event Designs is for, I wanted to give back to others and God has shown me that I can use my creative gift to give many people wonderful events at a fraction of the cost! My dream goal is have the ability to surprise young brides by decorating their weddings for absolutely free. Now that would bring me much joy!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory would be traveling to Trinidad and Tobago. I was so mesmerized by the beauty and style of the island. To this day, I still remember how crystal clear the beach water looked. It was gorgeous! I am definitely a foodie, so I was amazed at how the food was so fresh and authentic. It was delicious! I remember waking up to music and the sounds of dancing and singing in the streets. The people were so joyous and care-free. It was such a beautiful sight. The sun was so bright and hot yet the wind of the nearby seas created such a pleasant moment that I wish I could experience again and again. I can’t wait to visit this time with my husband and our little family.
