Today we’d like to introduce you to Nay Wickliffe.
Nay, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
At the age of seven, I realized I had a passion for beauty when I’d always enjoy playing in my grandmother’s hair. The bonding time was there during a learning experience as well. During high school, each day after track practice, I worked in the salon as a shampoo tech. I learned the ropes and responsibility of running a business before I even thought about running my own. My mentor was not only my mentor, but she was also my track coach, as well as my hairstylist. Coach Shonna saw potential in me as a little girl and I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. When I finally went off to college, I took what I knew and made it a business thing for myself. I did jumbo rope twist for majority of Montgomery and they soon gave me the name “The girl who twist”. That name has followed me thus far and I am forever grateful for it. After graduating college from THEE Alabama State University, I went ahead to pursue my cosmetology career and earn my license in 2015. Three years ago, after losing my grandmother, I launched my own hair company named Trilogy Hair. The English suffix “Tri” derived from both Latin and Greek roots, meaning three. My grandmother, my mother, and I were three-generation, so I decided to dedicate my business in remembrance of her. Trilogy Hair is known for the “three bundle deals” offered at all times. After getting my business up and running I then joined Clayton County Public Schools working in the special education department while still running my hair business & servicing clients. My mother always told me to finish school & then follow my dreams so that I’ll always have something to fall back on. I did just that, I secured my degree in psychology, knowing that’ll make my parents proud. At the beginning of this year I began to step out on faith and remove myself from the school system and become a full time entrepreneur & I couldn’t have made a better decision. I now have time to not only be a dynamic mother to my one year old son, but also a full time grad student while giving my clients the best customer service possible. I have just received my certification as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) in the state of Georgia and I cannot wait to attack that as well. I am thankful for the talent and education God has given me.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Patience is key, however, nothing comes to a sleeper but a dream. The process of running a business while finding yourself as a young adult can be very competitive but with patience and faith, anything is possible. Budgeting your funds is something I had to learn in the beginning in order to be successful.
Tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
