Meet Dr. Jonathan Lotson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jonathan Lotson.

Dr. Lotson, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in the church in the Washington, D.C. area. I started preaching when I was five… as I got older, I was the only preacher in amongst my friends and started to move away from preaching and hid behind my second love of music, which led me to Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.

I served as an organist there. Through my matriculation through Berklee, I felt a tug to re-accept my call to ministry, and I did. However, I didn’t want to do so without putting my all in it. I spoke to the pastor about different ways to put my best foot forward and he suggested going to seminary. I then attended the Charles Harrison Mason Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, GA. There I gained a greater love for ministry and leadership. While in school, I was blessed to serve in various leadership roles in my local church, Jurisdiction, and also in the school and community.

I had a desire to further my education, with an emphasis on Leadership. So, I attended Regent University and received my Doctorate in Strategic Leadership with a focus in Ecclesial Leadership. My love for leadership led me to write my first book on Effective Leadership and to also start another company¾ Jonathan Lotson Enterprises LLC, which houses my life coaching, speaking, and leadership consulting services.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, the road has not been smooth. There were many times when I felt like I wanted to give up, especially when I did not see instance fruit from my hard work. But I reminded myself that nothing grows overnight, but requires consistent hard work, consistently.

Before starting Jonathan Lotson Enterprises, I started a clothing line “I Owe God” apparel, which prepared me, and provided me with an opportunity to develop perseverance, which has helped me to overcome obstacles in my new venture.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
I am a Christian preacher, life coach, and leadership consultant.

Many times, Christian leaders who serve in the church are the only Christian leaders who receive teaching and development concerning leadership. However, what sets my company apart from others is we not only focus on Christian leadership who provide leadership in the church, but we also desire to provide encouragement, inspiration, and leadership consulting to Christian leaders who serve in the other industries, even beyond the four walls of the church.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My relationship with God: I believe that God gives me direction and leads me in the path that is destined for me. And God also provides me with peace and comfort through the highs and lows of my journey.

My relationship with others: Especially my loving and supportive wife, Mrs. LaShanne Lotson, as well as my parents Christopher & Denice Lotson, my brother Chris Lotson and my entire family. As well as my pastor, Bishop J.E. Hogan Sr. who has probably given me the most opportunities to serve and lead. Many say that those closest to them do not support them, but that is not my story, and for that, I am grateful.

My relationship with myself: I am big on assessments, and I constantly assess myself to search for ways that I can become better.
