Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Mowatt.
Charles, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Throughout my time at Savannah College of Art & Design, I’ve always had an interest in visual storytelling but that was just about it.
It wasn’t until my first Live Studio Production class where I got the rush of creating content. Having the finely tuned synergy of production, that humming towards the finish line, that was the first time I knew what I wanted to do. I saved up and bought my first camera and I literally just went out and shot everything I could. Without even knowing it, I was starting my own business. I wasn’t even thinking about it at the time, it was just the only thing that made sense. With two years left at SCAD, I was able to hone my videography and editing skills in preparation for the real world that waited for me beyond college.
Shortly after I got my Bachelor’s in TV Production, I decided I would take my future into my own hands.
I started my own business, Evolve Images, a production company that creates & edits videos for a wide range of events such as weddings, concerts, and nonprofit organizations. I’ve been very blessed to have amazing mentors in my life like Steven Starks, CEO of StarksFilms who has continually lit the torch for me. Being surrounded by good role models who keep setting the bar for excellence drives me to keep pushing myself and excelling at my craft. This has been my second year in business now and my network & client base are steadily growing. My main focus is to take everything in stride and learn just as much from my failures as I do my triumphs.
Has it been a smooth road?
I’ve definitely struggled with staying motivated in the beginning when trying to build a steady client base and getting my name out there. But my relationship with God has really gotten me through a lot of my dark times where I’ve wanted to throw in the towel
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Evolve Images story. Tell us more about the business.
Evolve Images focuses on creating and editing content for concerts, weddings and nonprofit events. I’m most proud of our vision and customer service. Having a background at the Four Seasons Hotels has really honed my communication and crisis control skills. Working under pressure is just a norm of the business & I’ve realized that’s where I thrive.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see us going global. Working with clients from all over the world & being able to create and tell stories spanning through cultures & continents.
