Keziah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Honestly, I’ve always had a passion for fashion. I’ve never let my size define my style. But there have been times where I couldn’t find clothes like all the other young adults that I knew that I could pull off. That’s what motivated me. I always knew that I wanted to start my own plus size boutique focusing on the plus-size woman. Opposed to other online stores that only have a tiny selection to choose from. Also, a lot of plus size stores have clothing that’s long conservative and not flattering, not youthful. My goal is to provide youthful clothes for young women. One of my main goals is to help plus size women realize they are sexy and beautiful too. I just want to inspire the next woman, and it’s okay to be you unapologetically. I know now is the time to build my brand and show the world Upscale. Upscale will be a household name. It’s time to build my empire.
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Entrepreneurship is an everyday job. 24/7. I have had graphic designers get paid and don’t produce work. And a list of other things. Social media is a game and you have to find people that you trust. But perseverance and resilience is also a part of being and entrepreneur. Every day won’t be great. You just have to push through those days also.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Upscale Plus Boutique story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in plus size apparel for women. I do offer items for all sizes but my main focus is on the curvy woman. I’m most proud of as a company is that it provides plus size women to network and inspire one another. Basically helping building relationships with the plus-size community. What sets me apart from others is that I have a large selection of plus-size apparel. And somewhat small selection for average-sized clothing. Which is the complete opposite of every other online stores. And also, everything that’s available in smaller sizes is also available in plus size. My motto is No Woman Left Behind. Every woman deserves to feel appreciated and beautiful. It’s all about representation. DREAM BIG is my slogan. Always chase your dreams and also the use of the term it figuratively for the plus-size woman.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see my industry evolving. I predict storefronts aren’t going to be much of a thing as it has been in the past. Revenue for online stores are growing. Social media is changing the game when it comes to retail. It’s convenient. Why leave your home when you can shop in your bed. In the comfortability in your own home or where ever.
