Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Elaine.
Nina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
All great things start with an idea, right? The spark that really ignited my passion happened a little over eight years ago when I truly began my spiritual journey. I’d always taken to psychology and the workings of the mind. After a particularly rough year, I began to discover things about myself and life through self-reflection that I had never experienced before. It was like my eyes were finally open and I could see reality for what it was for the very first time.
Then, a little over three years ago, I made the decision to finally bet on myself. I lost my job due to downsizing and instead of moping around, realized that I had been given a major opportunity to pursue my dreams. I packed up the few belongings that I had into my tiny car and drove 11 hours straight from Chicago to ATL. I had no job lined up, no family here, and no real idea of what I was doing. I actually planned to come down later on that year, but after losing my job I was faced with a choice and I chose to follow my intuition.
I had a vision for my life and I knew that I had to let go of what I knew and get out of my comfort zone in order to do that. I began sharing my truth online and my following started to grow. Soon, people were reaching out to me with questions and for advice and I knew that I had stumbled upon something special.
Since then, I’ve been pushed out of my comfort zone so many times I don’t even remember what it looks like. To make an extremely long story short, in 2018, I held my first event and it sold out. This year, my company hosted our first multi-city tour which also sold out. It still feels unreal sometimes and I’m forever thankful that I decided to take a chance and go after my dreams.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road. There will always be challenges in life but it’s up to you to decide how you approach them. I won’t sugar coat it- entrepreneurship is hard. It’s not structured like formal education where you put your nose down, do the work, graduate and then get a job. A lot of times you do the work and fail and have to start all over again from scratch. People see the end result of an event or product and have no clue how many hours and sacrifices were put into making that happen. You put your heart and soul into something that may or may not shake out.
A lot of people don’t know that I’ve funded most of the events with my own money. They just assume that because you’re hosting an event that companies are throwing money at you but that’s not how it goes. You have to go out and get it. You have to be hungry. If I had any advice for young women just starting out on their journey, it would be to have a legitimate business plan and to find a mentor. Most of all, develop discipline and consistency. Passion is great, but when you’re not feeling motivated you’ll end up falling off. That’s where discipline and consistency come in, When you make certain things a habit, you’ll default to that behavior regardless of motivation.
What should we know about Empress Incarnated? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a woman of many talents, so my work is pretty multi-faceted. Above all, I’m a creative. I started Empress Incarnated to help other women discover their personal truth. It’s a safe space for women, especially women of color, to explore the spectrum of spirituality and self-development without judgment or dogma. We do live events, workshops and have an online community on Facebook. Our focus is on healing via holistic methods- whether that be from childhood trauma, generational curses or anything else.
All we as humans know for sure is that we know nothing at all which, in and of itself, is a beautiful and freeing thing. If that’s the case, imagine all the things we don’t know- can’t know. That’s what we explore at Empress Incarnated. Thinking and feeling without limitations.
In my personal work, I create safe spaces for my personal clients to work through blocks and traumas. I’m an empath and intuitive, so I utilize my skill set along with other methods such as Astrology, Tarot, Oracle and pendulum work. I also write, sing, dance and paint among other things. I simply express myself in whatever way feels authentic to me. I think that’s what people value and connect with most- authenticity.
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
Definitely. Women are so powerful. Women are well-positioned for any opportunity that they want because where there’s a will, there’s a way. If I had to mention particulars, I’d say that right now there are so many women getting into STEM and other roles traditionally held by men which is awesome, but there’s also a collective yearning for hope and empowerment in the current climate, and women are also stepping up and taking the lead in these positions. I’m really excited about what the future holds for not only women but humans as a collective.
