Meet Keshaa Mcgurn of Platinum Financial Services in Stone Mountain

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keshaa Mcgurn.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Keshaa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Throughout high school, I had a love for business math! Anything having to do with dollars and cents. I eventually went on to pursue an accounting degree and ultimately earned my CPA credentials. Maintaining employment, particularly as a certified public accounting was fairly easy. I spent over 20 years of my accounting career navigating the ranks of the utility industry. All the while plotting my grand escape!

For about 15 years, I prepared tax returns as a side hustle. Mostly family, friends and trusted referrals. Because my full-time job was so demanding, I couldn’t grow the tax business (nor did I care to while working a whole fulltime job!). So, I was developing the accounting experience at my main job and I continued to develop the tax skills while moonlighting. All the while saving and making plans to eventually make my side hustle the “main” hustle. I’d realized early on that the small business community lacked quality financial resources and guidance. There are so many great small businesses that don’t have access to that crucial element of accounting that it is needed to help it strengthen and grow.

And so many hardworking people put their tax matters in the hands of scoundrels and unqualified preparers. I set out to change that dynamic and fill that void. In the summer of 2018, we officially opened our storefront location for Platinum Financial Services.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like most small business owners in the early stages of building, my biggest struggle is managing my time. It’s like there’s not enough of me to go around; and there never seems to be enough hours in a day. There’s so much to do and stay on top of! I can see how this madness could drive a person insane. Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart!

This is my second business. So, going in, I understood the expectations. Thankfully I was able to stack up enough cash so that I didn’t have to borrow for startup costs. And I was able to prop up my cashflow for the long haul. To narrow it down, my biggest struggles are currently: time/resource management, marketing, and team building.

Platinum Financial Services is a boutique accounting firm. We specialize in providing quality tax, accounting, and consulting services. Our mission is to help taxpayers keep more of their hard-earned money in their pockets; and to help small business owners achieve their goals by allowing them to focus on managing their companies while our team oversees their financials.

What set’s us apart is our customer service and expertise. We meet our clients where they are, from a knowledge standpoint. We never want them to feel like a question is too silly or stupid. Our goal is to always provide a quality work product and to ensure all the clients’ concerns are met and questions answered. I’m most proud of the feedback we get from our clients. They’re always excited to find out that our services are conveniently available to them. And they’re always so impressed by the level of service that we give.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
At Platinum Financial Services, our future plans include continuing to be great where we are! There are so many new entrepreneurs coming into the market. We are looking forward to continuing to support our current client roster at the highest level, while simultaneously positioning ourselves to become a resource for small business owners who are seeking to outsource their back-office work. Continuing to get the word out about our services, location, and expertise is our number one priority. I’m looking forward to our continued growth!
