Today we’d like to introduce you to Theodore Atkins Jr.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Theodore. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My love for health and fitness started with my father, who was also a bodybuilder, taking me to workouts and teaching me the effects of nutrition on the body. In 1995, I took that knowledge and entered into three Iron Man competitions at the Boys and Girls Club, and won them all. In 1998, I entered my first bodybuilding show (The Mr. FAMU Bodybuilding show) and won. I also entered the next three Mr. FAMU shows and not only won them all but trained all the competitors of the show. Since 2003 to present, I have won and participated in numerous nationally ranked bodybuilding shows. Most recently, I obtained my IFBB pro card. Out of 21 shows, I have earned a top-five ranking in 15 of them. I have obtained sponsorship packages and recognition from Gym Life and Bodybuilding.com, as well as, featured in Iron Man Magazine and multiple editions of Flex Magazine. I have also been featured in 7 bodybuilding videos as well.
Has it been a smooth road?
Being a bodybuilder has a hard road to success. There are countless hours working out to sculpt your body, diets that require strict discipline. Being a full-time educator means that a lot of sacrifice of personal time to achieve my bodybuilding goals. In addition to that, in 2017, I tore my rotator cuff and left bicep. This injury happened shortly after winning a bodybuilding show and receiving my IFBB Pro card. I was also months away from first bodybuilding show as a professional. This injury and subsequent surgery left me in a dark place. I’ve never been injured and I’ve never had surgery. It was all unknown territory. I was very worried that I wouldn’t be able to continue bodybuilding. By God’s grace, I have fully recovered from my injury and still doing what I love.
