Today we’d like to introduce you to J Chosen. Him and his team share his story with us below.
Please kick things off for us with some background on the story.
J.Chosen uttered these life-changing words in front of Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, & Alicia Keys before 12 million television viewers on the national TV show “The Voice.” J.Chosen sung a remake of Marvin Gaye’s world-famous “Sexual Healing” track & his voice left everyone speechless & electrified simultaneously. When Alicia Keys tells you “Marvin Gaye is clapping from heaven & people “DO NOT” sing like you anymore, it’s a “blessing” to be in your presence and to hear true vocal vulnerability from a man.” Gwen Stefani told J. Chosen “the way you smiled during the performance, it felt like you were really present in the moment.” In our brightest moment, sometimes we are facing our greatest challenge. With 12,000,000 people watching J.Chosen perform before the world, his heart & mind was focused on Albany, Georgia. J. Chosen’s mother was in the fight of her life. J.Chosen mother was hospitalized with a severe stroke and his moment was now “her” moment. J.Chosen knew his performance had to register as EPIC, to overcome the mental tragedy roving through his mind.
The city of Albany has a population of 157,000 people, and arguably the most famous person born in the town is the late great Ray Charles. During his childhood days, his mother played classic records by Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, & Marvin Gaye. J.Chosen would scream out the words from Ray Charles mega-hit “Georgia On My Mind” during family cookouts, and his family would stare in amazement. His grandmother said his during his birth, God’s angels touched his vocal cords. The ability to convert any song into a primetime karaoke moment provided ultimate validation of his gift. J.Chosen love for basketball carried him during his college Days at Appalachian State University. As his basketball career excelled, it created a crossroads between music & sports. Life would intervene and decide for J.Chosen. At the height of his collegiate basketball career, he suffered a career-ending injury which suspended his basketball dreams indefinitely. During this period of disappointment, J.Chosen performed at an open mic session, and the musical fire was re-ignited forever.
J.Chosen always felt that his purpose in life was multi-layered and non-conventional. The love of music was still his shadow and became his sun. I’m met J.Chosen in the recording studio in downtown Atlanta. I arrived early and watched the backup singers warming up to the featured track. They were all waiting on J.Chosen to enter & contribute. As I’m prepping some observation points for my interview with J.Chosen, an angelic voice erupts across the room, and all the background singers are “frozen. J.Chosen voice altered the entire mood and energy. The background singers get back in harmony with J.Chosen, and the entire song is born. That’s part of the rare beauty of J.Chosen, his ability to uplift, inspire, & innovate change. J.Chosen walks over and smiles at my presence. He asks me “what do you think of the record”? I said, “you were born to do this baby”! He told me his music would redefine the way people listen to soul music. I told him he is “The Chosen Voice of Millennial Music.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Haven’t been a smooth road and I’m still riding this wave to be successful in my career. It’s a struggle being away from family and having that killer instinct every day when I wake up to do better than yesterday! Not being able to get a chance to relax, I’m always on go. Through my journey, my mom and father got ill.
What else should we know?
I am known for singing I was born in a small town Albany Georgia are grew up in the church I have a church background. What I am most proud of is me overcoming A challenge of mine To be a contestant on NBC’s THE VOICE. What sets me apart from others is that no matter how hard it gets, no matter how tough it gets, I will never quit on myself. I am always looking searching for something new and how to better myself to better my craft. I’m always willing to learn different methods.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have started my career as a teenage to give myself time to grow more.
