Today we’d like to introduce you to Melvin Robinson and Angela Robinson.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started serving in the Marine Corps as a Helicopter Mechanic after working in a Warehouse job for 6 months and realizing I wanted more out of life, before I got out I went to school for Heating and Air after my duties. After successfully completing the course I left the Marine Corps and started working at a local Heating and Air Company in Atlanta. While there I started school at Atlanta Technical College for Business and Marketing. We had a project to come up with a business plan, so I decided to do my plan on home inspections not really knowing that I would use the plan. I was still working at the Heating and Air Company when I decided to work the business on the weekends. The Real Estate market was still good in Atlanta and a lot of Investors were buying properties. I performed 1 or 2 inspections a month. I continued working for 8 years in the Heating and Air Company and wanted to be a Salesman and interviewed with the Company for the position but was told I did not receive the positon. I was very disappointed and did not know which direction I wanted to go at that point. I studied to receive my Warm Air License (Heating and Air Contractor). Six months after that I got fired from my job. I had a 2nd baby on the way, a new house that my wife and I just closed on. I was so stressed out and I look at my wife and said, “what am I going to do”? My wife who had been speaking the business into existences as a full time job since we were dating simply said, “you are going to work the business full time and if you go and apply for unemployment then the company that fired you will win, Before that manager let you go he called you competition, so let’s be competition. Today we have 2 service Van with a crew operating the installs and recently just hired our first home Inspector. We have increased the business by 20% every year for the last 3 years and can directly say that Faith is the head of our Home!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, trying to turn side job customers into regular customer after getting fired and charging them the correct prices to repair equipment.
Extending myself to far and not being able to service everyone.
