Meet Trailblazer Britnee Alphin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Britnee Alphin.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Britnee. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a two-time degreed New York bred, Guyanese old soul with locs, dimples, hella tattoos, piercings + gauges. I do a lot from photography, calligraphy, to graphic design, writing and I even dabble in concept styling photography. I was blessed to marry my high school best friend + creative soulmate. We got busy + had two beautiful littles that keep our hearts full + bellies hurting from laughter.

Photography was introduced to me by my Poppy when I was a toddler. He is the jack of all trades + I was joined to his hip most of my life. I liked being able to capture things the way I see them and as the years progressed, the like turned into love and the love turned into an obsessive passion. It’s been bliss ever since.

I love moody concept portraiture, beautiful birth story memories, inspiring elopement + small wedding ceremonies, mushy-gushy couples, and enjoyable, fun-loving family imagery. Most of my sessions are captured outdoors alongside nature because that is the Soulphy Way. So, if you’re ready for adventure, huge laughs, candid captures + soulful jams, let’s connect and create magic!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! Photography is such an up and down adventure. One moment you are super busy with clients and double-booked then nothing. It’s the fine print that comes with this industry. I think how I’ve managed to cope with the slow season is finding things to do that keep me creatively plugged in.

My advice to young women starting out in this industry is to not be so hard on yourself! Photography isn’t a competition. Find your angles, find your light, and ride the passion bus over every hill and in every valley.

Please tell us about Soulphy Photo – what should we know?
I hate using the title “photographer” because everyone thinks photographers are only professionals with the ability to maneuver Photoshop and make them look like someone they aren’t. I capture beautiful people for a living. There’s my title! I l on be rustic, natural and organic vibes. I love nature and natural light. Those are the things that excite me in my work and that is what I’m known for. I love the character of my brand and what it stands for.

“Anyone can take a photograph but not everyone can create a memorable moment + experience.”

Working with Soulphy Photo is an experience. It’s more than high prices, Photoshopped body parts and studio lighting. It’s all about making you feel comfortable, free, and loving your moment.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
Great question… I think my biggest photographer’s inspiration is Annie Leibovitz. She is one of the most fluidly, creative and visually enticing photographers I’ve come across. I admire so many female photographers but she is my top favorite.

A cliché answer is my Mom. I always “blame” her for the reason why I’m so multitalented and have my hand in everything. She told me as a kid that “I can do anything I set my mind to as long as I keep God first” and I’ve been dipping in every passion I’ve had since I was a kid. If I had to list the most impactful thing my Mom has said to me, I’d had to say it was that. She has surely inspired me to follow my dreams with God as the driver.
