Meet Percocet Princess of Cashthoro Music Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Percocet Princess.

Percocet, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Coming up, I watched my mom who was a songwriter, so I always listened to music. I thought it would be a great outlet for me artistically. I was also inspired by my brother who was an inspiring rap artist and songwriter. In school, I would write raps as a hobby but hadn’t thought about taking it serious. Then, I started receiving tracks from his producer’s who were working with another up and coming artist as well as sitting in sessions.

Has it been a smooth road?
A smooth ride is not a term for the music business. The process alone is challenging because you have to find the right producers, engineers, etc. that matches you. On top of finding that sound, trying to find that team that believes in a female who wants to work in a male-dominated industry can pose a bit of a challenge. But, thanks to pioneers like Foxy Brown, Trina, Gangsta Boo and Nicki Minaj it made me believe it could be done.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
Cashthoro Music Group was founded in Brooklyn, NY by Branson and his best friend who wanted to create a platform for artist to be heard. So, he sent me a track and requested a verse from me. I took a listen and sent it back within 10 mins. and it was Dumb Lit he called me up instantly.

I feel that me being true to me first sets me apart from others. I don’t really fit the traditional stereotype of a female rapper. With the industry looking for a certain look and type, I try not to fit in and look for those who want to accept genuineness along with true skills.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see women running the industry in the next 3-5 years and making the money like most of our male counterparts. I think by that ten years mark women rappers would be the norm just like male rappers are currently.
