Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Zollicoffer.
Jeff, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began writing creatively in high school. I was an IB Student (International Baccalaureate Program) at Rufus King High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I moved to Georgia after graduation with the hope of attending Morehouse College. Due to financial aid issues, I began attending classes at Kennesaw State University and later transferred to Oglethorpe University because for their strong Liberal Arts curriculum. While attending Oglethorpe, I worked at Grady Hospital. Oglethorpe was the perfect fit for me as it allowed me to hone my craft as a writer. In 2018 my first book was published (Love Letters), and this year my second book, “Love Letters Anthology” was released.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have always had a passion for literature. Writing comes naturally for me. The hard part about “Love Letters” was living through the experiences that gave birth to the poems.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a “Literary Artist”. I use words to draw pictures. I have two books under my belt and I am preparing for the release of my third later this year. I write mostly about romance. I think the difference between my work and others is that I try to share true and unfiltered content. “Love Letters” is the result of my sharing real thoughts.
What were you like growing up?
I was a quiet guy. I would pay attention to my environment- capturing details in my mind to write about. I enjoyed reading comic books and listening to jazz and soul music. My Grandfather, Rev. Glen Jones pastored a church in Chicago and could sing with the best! I listened to Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Johnny Gill, Joe, Luther Vandross and other crooners.
