Conversations with the Inspiring Tracey Knight

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracey Knight.

So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
“Is this all there is?”
This is what I asked God in prayer. I was at my wit’s end and exhausted. From the outside looking in, I had it all. I was a powerful, successful career woman. I had raised millions of dollars for the nonprofits I worked for. I lived comfortably. I carried myself confidently and was married to a handsome, intelligent man but I felt like I wasn’t living up to my full potential. I desperately wanted to up level my life and career. I had a life anyone would envy but every day I would wake up unhappy and felt guilty about it. After all, wasn’t it selfish to want more when my life was so blessed?

So, with my eyes full of tears, I prayed “If this is all there is, then I am willing to accept it and live out the rest of my life feeling incomplete.” But I soon discovered, as if by a prayer answered, that this wasn’t all there was. There was so much more.

I humbled myself and sought some help. Thank goodness, I found Malane Shani, who became my life coach and mentor. Malane pulled no punches challenging my preconceived notions of what success was supposed to be. She helped me realize like John C. Maxwell says: “Change is inevitable, but growth is optional.” It wasn’t time to give up, but time to get to work on myself.

The next year of one-on-one coaching with Malane wasn’t easy. There was a lot of hard work and tears, but to my surprise, there was also laughter and eventually joy. Through this work, I discovered the truly authentic ME. I was REVEALED.

I AM Tracey Knight. Woman. Servant. Teacher. Mentor. A Powerful Feminine Leader. I am worthy, amazing and deserving of love, happiness, prosperity, and fulfillment.

Now, I am filled with the intention to pay forward what Malane gave me. My purpose, as the Self-Mastery Coach, is to help men and women stretch their vision beyond the life they have, to the life they want.

If you’re tired of the status quo and are longing to realize your full potential as a master of every area of your life, then I am ready to help you reveal your true self, define your own success, and create the joy, prosperity, and fulfillment that you deserve.

Has it been a smooth road?
Are they really struggles? I used to characterize life’s ups and downs, twists and turns as “challenges” but it always sent my mind spiraling into the abyss of negative thinking.  This is what leads to a feeling of being disempowered and stuck – two mindsets that are detrimental to any entrepreneur or executive who wants to win.

As both a student and teacher of self-mastery, there are a couple of things I have come to realize:

  1. Struggle is a choice and challenges are a matter of perception. When I have an expectation about how life, a situation or a person is “supposed” to be, and it does not work out that way, I perceive it as a “problem” and then I begin to struggle to make it what I want. Struggle is a sure sign of resistance. When I surrender attachment to my expectations and just experience life as it is, I am never disappointed, life flows effortlessly, and I typically learn something valuable.

  2. Challenges build muscle. Life is coming for you. There is no way around it. The question is, “How can you make it worth your while?” I don’t believe in leaning into my strengths. I’ve already mastered them. I use them as my tools. I believe that my greatest opportunity to become the next best version of myself is to lean in and tackle my weaknesses; and believe me, they always show up when I am faced with challenges. But when I get over my stinking thinking, become proactive and tap into my resources, my self-confidence, creativity and ability to problem-solve goes way up! Overcoming challenges shows me what I’m made of and makes life worth living.

  3. One of my mentors always said, “Failure is not fatal, and failure is not forever.” I will add, “Unless you choose it.” We all must shift our beliefs about failure. Failure is not a bad thing. It is a natural part of our development. If you remember the scientific process from science class, failure was used to cultivate curiosity and strengthen learning.  When an experiment did not work, you asked “why”, “what happened” and “how can it work”? This has led to countless inventions. Unfortunately, most people have PTSD from school. No one wants to get an “F”.  Failing is designed to teach us if we choose to see the opportunity to learn and grow. Most people choose to let failures (big and small) wipe them out and they never try anything new or hard again. Taking the easy road, playing small or never trying leads to a life of mediocrity. If you want to win, embrace failure!

Fail, fail fast and fail often.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
My mother and Harriet Tubman are the two women who most inspire me.

Harriet Tubman made 19 trips from the south to the north, helping to physically free thousands of slaves. But what she understood better than anyone was that freedom starts in the mind. Many slaves choose to stay on the plantation rather than risk being caught by slave hunters on the journey north. This was a condition of the mind. All hope for a different life was thwarted by fear. They would only allow themselves to see what was in front of them – imprisonment.

This is true for so many people – young and old. They had/have a longing for good health, happiness, love, intimacy, success, wealth and meaning, but they don’t have the courage to chase it with the same vigor they chase material things that only bring temporary satisfaction. Mother Harriet followed the North Star of her consciousness long before she took one step off the plantation. As I hear the voices of doubt, obstacles of adversity and face the torches of my own fears, it is her ingenuity, persistence and fierceness that serve as an inspiration to me.

My mother is my rock. She is an independent thinker who marches to the beat of her own drum. This serves me well when I need to remember that I am a pioneer. She has a strong sense of morality. It is her voice that keeps me grounded and centered in my Spirit. And finally, she is compassionate. Her kindness and unconditional love for others, especially those in need reminds me that I am here to heal and serve humanity.
