Today we’d like to introduce you to Martha Mari.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My journey as an artist (or creative) begun long ago, well before I saw myself as one. When I was younger, I remember playing this game called “Cha-Mama” where I pretended to be a mom who needed to prepare food for her children. I would go around the neighborhood collecting rocks, flowers, and greenery pretending it was food. I would put so much attention on the placement of the rocks, plants, and greenery as I tried to create the most aesthetically pleasing plate for my pretend family. Years later as a 10-year-old kid, I would often find myself doodling abstract images and self-portraits in class and I was convinced that I was a real artist, lol. However, by senior year of high school, I had discovered another passion, Fashion! I fell in love with the idea of creating garments and I even went as far as applying to FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC) for the design program. I was convinced I was the next major fashion designer in town. However, after receiving a rejection letter from FIT, I took it as a sign to self-reflect and figure out what I wanted to do with my life. Soon after, other interests took over and I came to the realization that fashion design wasn’t my calling, so I settled on pursing a business management degree. As I continued on with life, I realized my soul was aching for a creative outlet and therefore I decided to start a blog.
Initially I started the blog with a desire to share my faith as a young Christian. I wanted to create a platform where I would share my experiences and also encourage others to find solace and strength in their relationship with God. Around the same time, the Lord opened up a door for me to start traveling more frequently and through my travels, my friends and community requested that I share my experiences with them on the blog. As a result, my blog naturally evolved into a travel blog, however I still share content about faith and also interior decor.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I am a faith-based travel blogger, who shares her life experiences on my blog (marthamari.com). I aim to first inspire people to find the one who is all in all- Jesus Christ. My relationship with the Lord is the foundation of my being and without Him all my doing would be in vain. It is my hope and desire that through my writings, I would be able to share and convey His great love and passion for the people He gave his life for.
Through my travel content, I aim to encourage others to launch out into the deep by traveling to their dream destinations, while also equipping readers with the best travel tips for their vacation needs. Growing up, I had this perception that only the “rich” get to experience destinations like Venice, Paris, Santorini, and Thailand just to name a few. However, in recent decades, traveling the world has become more accessible than ever before. At the beginning of 2016, I remember praying about the new year and declaring it would be the year that I traveled internationally. God must have been listening because I went to three countries that year! On the blog, I also share local travel spots for those interested in finding destinations within the states. I started traveling around the country first before I ever traveled internationally, and I understand that international travel is a luxury for many. Afterall people are busy raising families and let’s be honest, that 2-week vacation we get at work isn’t enough to live a jet-setting life. However, for anyone working a 9-5 job (like me), but still desires to see the world, I have written some great blogs with incredible destinations for you to visit.
Interior Decor is something that I have done as a hobby for many years. I love decorating rooms and even friend’s apartments when they let me. In the next couple of months, I will be sharing some simple décor tips on the blog that I hope will inspire readers with some decorating tips!
