Today we’d like to introduce you to Allan Wendt.
Allan started taking photos as a teenager. His first camera was a professional quality Nikon camera that he used producing presentations for major manufactures in the textile industry. Allan is currently working as a photographer & television engineer, with much of his work in Real Estate Photography.
Drone Photography has been a natural progression for Allan. Allan’s aviation story began in the same way as thousands of others. As a kid, he and his dad went to the local airport just to watch the planes take off and land. On a good day he might get a ride with one of the local pilots.
He soloed and became a Private Pilot while he was in high school. He continued to learn and became a Commercial Pilot, Certified Flight Instructor and Instrument Instructor, Advanced Ground Instructor and a Multi-engine Airline Transport Pilot. Allan has thousands of hours instructing, flying charters and flying the 50 passenger Bombardier CRJ, Canadair Regional Jet for Midway Airlines.
In television, he has spent many years traveling with Television Remote Trucks and Satellite Uplink Trucks. He has been a staff engineer for TNN, The Nashville Network, Scripps Networks (HGTV, The Food Network, DIY & GAC) and for Turner Broadcasting Systems. Recently, he has had a career as a freelance television engineer for CNN & Turner Broadcasting.
Allan knows cameras and how to tell stories through a lens.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I know how to tell a story through a lens. I am not strong at marketing my business.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
As a kid, I started shooting photography because I enjoyed it. Today I shoot because I love shooting. And, I love meeting people and developing relationships with them. I like to have fun, so I try to make photo sessions a very enjoyable and relaxing experience for everyone.
I volunteer as a photographer with the Atlanta Humane Society. Every week I am taking photos of several pets. I refined some of the techniques that make pet photography successful.
What were you like growing up?
My dad owned a display and exhibit business. I grew up learning about presenting information to groups of people. As a teenager, I started working with dad in the display business. That led to producing multi-projector slide shows. My dad’s company leased a professional quality Nikon camera and accessories. I was the only person to use that camera during the two year lease. When the lease was up, I purchased that camera for about one half of the normal price. That film camera served me very well until film cameras were replaced by digital cameras.
