Meet Jai Fenwick of Jilyn Skincare in Southside – Henry County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jai Fenwick.

Jai, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I originally started my company after my grandparents got sick, I got sick and a popular skincare product stopped working for me. Those illnesses led me to learn more about what skincare products and food are doing to our bodies.

I originally started with one product and my line has now expanded into a full facial skincare line as well as body products.

I just recently rebranded and changed my company name as well. Even with all the changes, the focus has not changed and neither has the products. The goal is still to educate on the correlation between what we consume and put on our bodies so that women can learn what to do and not do to feel beautiful in their skin.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not! 🙂 I’ve had to learn how to navigate the constantly changing world of eCommerce and social media and be open to help because I cannot do it all alone. It seems like the only way it can get done right is if I do it and that is not the case at all. Adding others to the team is a process but it takes such a weight off my shoulder.

Please tell us about Jilyn Skincare.
I sell handmade skin and body care products. I’m most known for my Liquid African Black Soap and as the lady that is always hounding people about their water intake!

I’m super proud that I’m still around. This started as a hobby for me. I had no intention of being a business owner for several years. But it’s been ten years now and I’m still going.

I am not a product pusher. Many skincare companies harp on being handmade and they product push. I’m just as concerned, if not more so honestly, about what my customers and potential customers are consuming. Their skin issues are internal issues and I would be remiss if I didn’t address that piece of the puzzle.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Planned.

I’ve done many things on a whim. The business was a whim. If I had to start again, I would sit down and properly plan out every aspect of my business.
