Which over the years, has turned her passion into purpose, as she focuses on creating accountable relationships for young girls and women to be successful in every area of their lives.
Having grown up in a single parent home until the age of 12, as well as being the daughter of a man who was once considered Central Florida’s largest drug dealers, Nyesha knew early on she wanted to create a different life for herself and future children. Fast forward, now married 16 years to her high-school sweetheart, U.S. Army Veteran, Staff Sergeant Willie Carey, Nyesha is no stranger to acclimating to change. Having raised her daughter alone for a year, as her husband fought War; Operation Iraqi Freedom in Mozul, Iraq, Nyesha developed a heart for community, adventure, and assisting women flourish. A few of her philanthropic efforts include hosting a Valentine’s Day dinner for the women and children of a local Central Florida homeless shelter and taking more than 17,000 lbs of donations to the Bahamas, after the devastation of Hurricane Dorian. As an experienced world traveler, having lived in Dubai, UAE for 2 1/2 years, and who has traveled to Austria, Czech Republic, Paris, Germany, Italy, Spain, and her home country, the beautiful Island of the Bahamas, Nyesha understands the value of denouncing societal barriers, in order to foster positive relationships between women. This revolution jolted Nyesha’s heart, leading her into public speaking, women’s event mentorship/coaching, and advocating for women, by creating events where women are celebrated, and no longer overlooked; giving them an opportunity to be themselves, while finding ways to overcome the rejection, and negative stereotypes that are often attached to women not being able to collaborate.
In valuing the importance of reminding women of their power, their beauty, and their ability to balance life, as well as the importance of women supporting women, Nyesha set out to break the barrier. Therefore, she birth Queen of Hearts Foundation International, where all women are considered Queens, and together we are committed to the well-being of the community. Tweens Teens & Tiaras™; a confidence building pageant designed to teach girls between the ages of 10-19 years of age, that they are all winners, and to provide them with early life skills to succeed in their life’s purpose. Lastly, the Women Rock™ Tour; celebrating women in business, and hosting informational panels, for women to listen, engage and learn.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have definitely been obstacles. In the “Empowerment” line of work, there’s a lot of catty, frenemy, and competition that takes place between women. I can remember the first time I brought up the idea of hosting an empowerment event in collaboration with another women’s organization, and I was pretty much denied the opportunity. Pardon me while shedding some light on the underrated topic. Unfortunately, a lot of women host empowerment seminars as a form of show and monetary gain but are steering away from actually practicing what they preach. Thus the reason, I sat out to truly connect and mentor women through my first company, The PowHERful Network. Truthfully, nothing in life comes easy, and if it does, there will still be a lesson to teach you along the way, and I’ve definitely learned a lesson or two.
Please tell us about Queen Of Hearts Foundation International.
In 2018 I became Mrs. Galaxy Bahamas, which granted me the opportunity to impact young girls and women on a larger scale and at a faster pace. Although I’ve always had a heart for mentoring, as I first began in 2012 with my company BLUSH, which stood for Building Lives of Unity Success and Honor, in which I began by mentoring five young ladies from Apopka High School, whom I still keep in touch with today. Eventually, I began to host more events for women under my brand, The PowHERful Network. The PowHERful Network was my way to break the walls of division women encountered in trying to collaborate with other Alpha women. These events were very successful, but on September 1, 2019, as I lay on the sofa at my best friend’s home in Charlotte, NC, I was devastated by the horrific impact Hurricane Dorian was having on the Bahamas. I knew right away, God granted me the title of Mrs. Galaxy Bahamas 2018 for such a time as this, a time where I would be able to impact internationally. I began a fundraiser initiative, raised funds, gathered donations, and personally took more than 17,000 lbs of donations to the families displaced by Hurricane Dorian. I was committed to ensuring all donations personally reached the hands of the affected families, so I chartered multiple flights, and along with my team, we carried the donations to Grand Bahama. Shortly after beginning my initiative, I noticed that people were no longer inclined to simply donating to Nyesha Carey; Mrs. Galaxy Bahamas 2018, and I knew I needed to officially file an organized company through the State of Florida, therefore, Queen of Hearts Foundation International was created. An organization where all women are considered Queens, and together we are committed to the well-being of community. With Queen of Hearts Foundation International, I am constantly finding ways to give back and uplift the community,
What I’m most proud of about my company is many smiles we are able to put on the faces of those we help. It’s such a humble experience that I wouldn’t trade for the world.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I honestly wouldn’t have done anything differently. I’m a firm believer in the power of purpose, through life’s lessons. Meaning, had I done things differently, I probably wouldn’t have come into my purpose with a clear vision, neither would my story have had a great impact in mentoring others. A quote I wrote years ago to always recite to myself is; “I told my story and made History, HERstory.” I’m manifesting purpose and changing lives along the way, so who am I to change that.
