Today we’d like to introduce you to Diamond Blount.
Diamond, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My name is Diamond Blount i was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. I started piinkdiamondz while I was in hair school. I got the name from some classmates at Aveda institution of cosmetology. They gave me that name because my hair was always pink and of course, my name is Diamond. Lol my Bestfriend always say that I took her nick name pinky and added my name to it but there is the truth. My first location for my business was inside of my Grandparent’s house. I literally turned my bedroom into a salon suite. Every day I would be doing hair from 7 am -until. My grandparents driveway would be full everyday. At the time I was also working at Chipotle Mexican grill inside of Lenox mall, so after work I would still take clients no matter the time. That lasted for about a year. August of 2016, my grandpa was diagnosed with lung cancer so I decided that I didn’t want to do hair in the house because of his condition. I quit working at chipotle that year to further my education at Atlanta Metropolitan State College and start doing hair full time. I started working at my first salon home Vanity hair and makeup studios. It was a great experience they welcomed me with open arms. Immediately my clientele expanded. Your girl was booked and busy! I worked at Vanity two years before moving to Salon Ramsey, where I was a member of the Gold Room. I working was at the Gold Room for a year in a half. While working at vanity, I was able to make major connections in the music production world that took my hair and makeup talents to another level. I have worked with major artists such as Lil yatchy, Lucci, Young thug, 21 savage, Metro booming, Gunna, Teyonna Taylor, Dave East, Meg The Stallion and more. August of 2019, I was able to move into my own space and finally put a vision to my name. I got to where I am today by being patient, trusting God and walking in humility.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, not at all! I faced many struggles along the way. When I started working at Salon Ramsey, I was a sophomore at Atlanta Metropolitan State College sleeping in my car. I lost my apartment due to a flood and I also had just lost my grandfather a few months before. Business had gotten extremely slow for me. I remember being scared and depressed because I couldn’t figure out my next move. No one knew this was going on because I would always have a smile on my face. I would still go to work even if I didn’t have any clients. I was determined I have never been the type to let my circumstances stop me from reaching my goals. I have always been independent so it was hard for me to adapt to this drastic time in my life. I didn’t want to have to face struggles that I faced as a child, that was my biggest fear. One day I was in my car and I was playing my worship music and the song “hold on change is coming “ played and indeed it did.
Piink Diamondz Beauty Lounge – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Piink Diamondz Beauty Lounge is a full-service salon located inside of the suites at Westend. We specialize in weave installations, silk presses, color, braids, and makeup applications. What I am most proud of as a company is the genuine support from the employees and clients. I love them so much. What sets us apart from others is our good energy. Everyone loves to stop by even if it’s just for a hug, prayer, or encouragement. That makes me happy to see people uplifted when they walk out of my salon doors.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is fulfilling your purpose. Every new level that you reach is a level of Success. The only time you fail is when you give up. You have to continue to push even when you can’t see the finish line. Faith patience and consistency is my criteria for success. You have to cherish every moment the good and the bad. Every loss turns into a lesson. You have to learn to be ok with taking the long route to success. Great things take time and the journey is worth it.
