Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Porter.
Tiffany, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am from New Jersey and first to attend college in my family. Due to my mother’s incarceration, I was primarily raised by my Great-Grandmother and Grandmother. I am the oldest of five and had to grow up very quickly to assist with my younger siblings. I attended Hampton University and obtained a Bachelor of the Arts in Music – Vocal Performance.
In 2002, I attended Emory University School of Law on a scholarship and Georgia State University (MBA) simultaneously with two small children. In law school, I served as the President of the Black Law Students Association and clerked for Justice Robert Benham of the Georgia Supreme Court.
I began my law practice in my bedroom and continued until I was able to afford an office. In 2011, I formed Porter and Whitner Law Group with my friend and sorority sister, Judge Tadia Whitner, the first black Superior Court Judge in Gwinnett County. Porter and Whitner Law Group practice areas included criminal defense, juvenile defense, family law, personal injury and real estate.
In 2013, I became a certified NFL agent and created Zenith Sports and Entertainment Group, a full-service sports and entertainment agency.
On October 15, 2019, I was sworn in as the first black judge in the Duluth Municipal Court. While continuing my law practice, I am also a legal analyst on CourtTV. I have been an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for 20 years.
Has it been a smooth road?
I come from very humble beginnings. My family could not financially support my education. I had my first child in college, but becoming a mother motivated me to finish college and pursue law school. After completing law school and business school, I was divorced with four children under the age of 8. I did not have a job and had not passed the bar exam. With three degrees, I had to bartend by night and study for the bar exam by day while my children were in daycare and school.
I hit an obstacle. In 2008, I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 29. I had a double mastectomy with reconstruction and was deemed cancer-free. I continued to press forward with my law firm and was a professional cheerleader for the Atlanta Chiefs semi-pro football team.
I was hit with another huge blow in 2018. In May 2018, I was diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Porter Law Group, Zenith Sports and Entertainment Group and Associate Judge, Duluth Municipal Court – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Porter Law Group specializes in criminal defense, business law, personal injury and real estate law. As a solo practitioner, I am most proud of the successful track record I have in criminal defense.
Zenith Sports and Entertainment Group represents professional entertainers and athletes. We help develop brands, negotiate deals and handle all contracts for the clients.

I love the opportunities afforded to entrepreneurs in this city! If you can dream it, you can best believe that you can achieve it here. I believe the opportunities are limitless if you remain focused, set goals, and accept failure as a learning tool, not defeat.
