Meet Q. Sutton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Q. Sutton.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started off as a bookkeeper for a property management company with summer youth at 15. That became an official position and after school job. Over the years, holding several positions in different areas of accounting or business management, I always knew that I wanted to own and operate my own business. So in October 2014, I started QTax Services LLC. A dual accounting and business development firm.

By June of 2015, I had worked my way from a temp to my first consulting contract with a Federal Government Agency in less than three months. That’s when I knew this was meant to be. In addition to tax preparation for individuals and business formation for startups, I was consulting for larger companies, developing and restructuring their financial operations and processes. I decided to challenge myself and move from my hometown NYC to Atlanta, where I could be closer to like-minded entrepreneurs and establish a foundation for Q. Sutton Consulting.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
By smooth, if you mean slippery freshly mopped floor, then yes, smooth indeed lol. Although I was living in Midtown, it was a struggle to acclimate to the slow pace and even slower sense of urgency. Fortunately, I had landed another contract the first week I moved down, so I was still making “NY Money” with Atlanta expenses. Then I decided to move further out and let’s just say I wasn’t ready. The struggle was real initially, but I have since adapted.

Please tell us about Q. Sutton Consulting.
My business is a dual full-service accounting and consulting firm. I specialize in financial management and business development for start up and established businesses. On the financial side we provide services including bookkeeping, tax preparation & budgeting. On the consulting side we offer business formation/framework, non-profit development & 501(c)3 applications, wealth management, organizational development & trademarking. As a company, I am most proud of the reliability & sense of relief that we provide our clients. They light up when they first see their business name on an official document or get that first check no matter how small. I have started over 30 businesses in the last two years and they are all successful. What sets me apart from others is my ability to maintain my integrity & continue to work in my purpose while helping so many others first visualize then create their dreams.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have started out with higher rates. When you know how to measure the time & labor that goes into getting a task done, you better understand your value and demand respect. But in having to learn that over the years, I now have a formula that I share with my clients, so it all adds up in the end.
