Meet Trailblazer Kelia Reed

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelia Reed.

Kelia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m 27 years old with two sons, Jayden (8) Jordyn (6), I wouldn’t say my life so far has been a fairytale but it’s been one hell of a ride. Growing up my mother was a single parent that did everything in her power to make sure I and my other two siblings were okay. As I got older, I had my own view on life I notice that school wasn’t for me I would get into fights a lot so I got my ged and got married to a guy that decided to join the military. I moved from my home town Virginia 757 to Alaska where it started to get rocky. I was in a marriage where I didn’t feel beautiful it was very toxic, he’d leave me with my newborn to be with his friends & other women all day. It started getting out of control in the marriage where he just didn’t want to be in it anymore & by this time, I have had my 2nd child by him when he left me with nothing & moved out on his own to party & live the single life. I had never had an apartment in my name before he left us so I went out & got a job & an apartment in Junction City, Kansas.

I was alone with two children to fend for so I tried working but it wasn’t ideal so I started dancing for a little an hour away from my home & Life was starting to look up until I notice it was not a mistake but a big lesson learned in my past life. In 2018, I set goals for myself and started to knock them out one by one, starting with YouTube just doing something I love which is hair and makeup I wasn’t expecting it to take off so fast as it did but what can I say everyone loves them some Kay. My goals was to have 10k by the end of 2019 and guess what it did! It actually almost doubled within one year frame. I decided to go on a weight loss journey to better myself, Life was rocky at a point in life but I am now coming for everything they said I couldn’t do. I never let the world or any obstacles take me down everything is a lesson learned to just get better at my craft. In my time on earth, I have been through so much where you couldn’t even imagine getting touched on at two while my mom was at work by a baby sitter to a broken marriage and now happily getting a divorce and moving on up in life. I now stay in Colorado and love traveling. I’m using my platform to show young women that it’s never ok to be abused or mistreated & it is most definitely ok to love the skin your in.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This road I traveled & continue traveling is a very challenging one but it is not to be discouraged it only means your getting closer to your goals. My advice to women that find themselves feeling alone to know that you aren’t alone & there are women with your same struggles if not worse that we’re able to excel especially my story was meant to fail but I’m getting better & better each day. Never give up!

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I’m known for speaking my mind & doing what I feel is right & not following a certain trend for the moment, I try to be 100% authentic when I’m speaking on my platform to show others it’s ok to speak up for yourselves & not follow other people’s opinions. I’m most proud to be the person I have become today, a strong woman that was pushed in every direction to fail but instead is out here setting goals & achieving them day by day.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
My Mother & grandmother have inspired me to become the woman I am today. They installed in me how to survive in this world because it is not just about existing anymore, women need to come up with survival skills in this world today. My mom taught me that I came from a strong black woman who not only took care of me but my two younger siblings as well with ease. My grandmother was my world, she inspires me every day to not feel sorry for myself but to always keep pushing for better days for my little family. She can’t be here in physical form but her presence is always felt in everything I do.
