Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Alexander.
Kimberly, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am Kimberly “PsychFit Lady” Alexander. I am a licensed professional counselor, Director of Clinical Services for a psychiatric hospital, certified personal trainer and sports nutritionist who offers a holistic approach to psychological and physical wellness. My mantra is “Wellness is from the inside out when God is the center.” I am the owner of Fit Mind Fit Body Fit Soul, LLC, a Christian health and wellness company located in the metro Atlanta area that integrates spiritual, mental, and physical components for a comprehensive approach towards lifelong wellness. I recently authored the book “Where Are My Clients? Line Up Fitness Clients and Grow Your Business.
When I started in the fitness industry in 1994 it was because health and wellness had significantly changed my life. Topping the scales at over 200 lbs. on my 5’4″ frame was the reason I attended my first fitness class. At the end of that magical hour, I had experienced fun and intense workout included great music and was taught by an effervescent, young instructor. I had to go back for more. Slowly my body began to change but more importantly, so did my mind. That was the bug that bit me that made me know I wanted to change the lives of others using the vehicle of fitness.
I began teaching fitness classes and within two years realized there was a difference in working with groups of people versus individuals. I soaked up every bit of fitness education I could find. In 1996 I became a certified personal trainer and between teaching classes and working with individuals, I found my happy place where I could directly impact the health and wellness of other people. Several years later after a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry in the neuroscience division, I realized what was missing from the equation of health and wellness. The fragmentation between exercise, mental health, and spirituality was causing people to improve in one area but not maintain their wellness over time. I began to work to do just that. Now I motivate others to change the lives of people in a healthy way to fight the epidemic of disease and obesity.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing about this journey has been easy but every step has included amazing highs and guts wrenching lows that have grown my strength, maturity, and intestinal fortitude. My biggest struggles have included recently having to close my 11,000 sq. ft. gym and seeing many of the faces I have helped along the way decide to walk away. I can find gratitude in the seasons I have with people who come across my path but letting go of relationships when their time has passed will always be difficult for me.
Tell us about your company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others
I own the company Fit Mind Fit Body Fit Soul, LLC. (F3) It was formerly called PsychFit, LLC but I was sued for the name a few years ago and I changed it to F3, which was my tagline. F3 is a holistic wellness company that recognizes health and wellness is a lifelong journey that involves the mind, body, and soul and we attend to each facet. From traditional wellness services offered in corporate settings such as group fitness classes and personal training to counseling services for marriages and individuals dealing with depression and anxiety, F3 is a one stop shop that helps clients achieve their peak level of wellness by focusing on the whole person. We offer classes, seminars, and workouts that create change in the lives of others.
I’m most proud of our work in helping to reduce the stigma of mental health and counseling and allowing people to understand that seeking counseling as a part of the wellness plan is a strength!
I’m probably known most for my unconditional acceptance of people no matter where they are in their journey and my ability to speak life and hope into even the most defeated person. While most companies seek to acquire and maintain their client base, my goal is to work myself out of job by educating clients on how to be their best and healthiest self.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment in my career has been two fold: It is that I have helped launch over 60 people into becoming wellness professionals who are changing the lives of others and owning a full services gym that appealed to a diverse group of people from Asians to Latinos, Whites, Blacks and more! It was full of people who ultimately had the same goal; to be a part of a healthy community.
Recently writing my first book has also been a major accomplishment for me and I am quite proud that this will be the first of many.
