Meet Rashun Garris of Southern Shave

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rashun Garris.

Rashun, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been in the haircare industry my entire life. Born and raised in Charleston, SC I am a second-generation Master Barber. I started sweeping the floor at my father”s barbershop when I was eight years old. The summer before I started high school, I began cutting hair in the shop and in the neighborhood where I grew up, I can honestly say back then I was terrible, but I was cheap and people continued to support me. While in high school, I became a little better, well to make enough money to buy $200 Jordans. Upon graduation I attended Top Of The Line Barber College in Chaleston, SC and graduated in 2017, Work in my father”s barbershop for a few years before I wanted to explore other opportunities, I worked for the Navy for about nine months before I went to work for The Art Of Shaving.

At the Art Of Shaving is where I found that there was a need for my company Southern Shave. I would book entire wedding parties for haircut and shave services and not everyone would show up. The main reason for this was time. We did not open like many traditional shops, we open like a retail store because ultimately, that is what we were. To combat this from happening, I turned in my resignation and started my own company in 2018 that cater to this need. Weddings and special events happen everywhere and someone is always in need of a cleanup, haircut, shave, or beard trim. Southern Shave brings the entire barbershop experience to you whether it be the comfort of your home, hotel room or a music festival.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The obstacles that I have endured were more to do with me not being in constant contact with the wedding planners. Even going to bridal show and getting and email list was easy. The hard part was getting people to say yes. It is not common for a barber to be at bridal show and knocking on the doors of wedding planner to offer their services. I figured if women can have cosmetologist and makeup artist come to them for their special day so should the men.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Southern Shave – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Southern Shave is a premier grooming concierge business. Our sole purpose to give the gentleman a personal barbershop experience. We serve one client or multiple clients for weddings or special events. At Southern Shave we do everything from haircuts, straight razor shaves (face and head), beard trims, shoeshine, and facials. I am most proud of how the gentleman feels and looks after they have had the Southern Shave experience, They walk a little taller and with a little more swag on their special day.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
What are the future plans for Southern Shave looking to have publications in every wedding magazine around. We are currently training barbers and adding them to our team.
