Meet Robert Pauley of The WELTHĒ Guy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Pauley.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Robert. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I always loved clothes, especially men’s suiting. Prior to starting my business, I worked in Financial Services for almost ten years. I would wear a suit to work and I was known as ‘the guy in the nice suits.’ For about two years, I saw a coat in my head. I wanted an elegant top coat with fur to wear over my suit during the winter months, but couldn’t find anything that was good quality and affordable. One day, I visited a shop in NYC to see if they had the coat I was looking for and the salesperson suggested, I try and make it myself. At first, I was hesitant because at the time, I just wanted to buy a coat. I decided to take his advice and have it made. Once I started wearing the coat, many people would stop me on the street to ask me who the designer was and I told them me. From there, people started placing orders and a few months later, I left my career in finance to pursue my business full-time.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road hasn’t always been smooth – and it still isn’t. When I started the business, I was unknown as someone that designed clothes. One of the biggest challenges has been building my name as a credible source of custom menswear. People buy what they know and in addition to that, my products aren’t fast fashion so my client is specific in terms of how much they are willing to spend on a product from me. Most people think my products are not affordable, but they are affordable luxury. So a lot of people who can afford it are more likely to go to a luxury brand they know and that others know before coming to me. This is something that I work on everyday to change.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The WELTHĒ Guy – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
WELTHĒ Lifestyle–a lifestyle services brand. My business delivers one-of-a-kind experiences tailored to make you look, feel and be the best version of yourself. The largest part of my business is my custom topcoats. I’ve built a social media following by modeling my own clothing designs and sharing men’s style and grooming tips with my followers. One of the elements that makes me unique is I have a good balance between an artist’s mind and a business mind. I use a lot of what I’ve learned over the years working in financial services and apply it to my business. I’ve also lived in Brazil, China, Hong Kong and Spain. Living abroad and experiencing style and culture in other countries has really helped me relate to a broad spectrum of people.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I’ve seen Atlanta grow exponentially over the last ten years. There is so much more access to entertainment, food, clothing and types of housing. What I like least about it is the driving. I’m a native New Yorker and I’m used to being able to get where I need to go by subway or walking, but in Atlanta, you mostly have to drive.
