Meet Lawrence Moore Jr. of NoStress in Conyers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lawrence Moore Jr.

Lawrence, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always been around music. To this day, my grandma tells me she remembers walking in on my grandad and I listening to jazz when I was a baby. I attended a private school in Decatur and it was there where I started playing the trumpet and baritone. I played in the concert band in middle school, high school and briefly in college. I also took piano lessons for three years. I feel in love with hip hop music from a young age. I grew up in a Christian household so that music wasn’t really accepted. Growing up, I was listening to artists like Ludacris, T-Pain, TI, Lil Wayne and so many others. While in high school, I was the kid who made beats on the desks in class while my classmates were rapping. I wanted to get into producing but I didn’t know anyone close to me who was into that. So the idea of making music professionally was more or less a dream.

During the summer of 2015, I got done with my second year of college at Savannah State University. When I came home, my dad and I had conversation about my future. After that conversation, I realized I didn’t know what I was going to do for the rest of my life. I started listening to some beats and thought to myself, I could try writing a song. At the time, I thought the song was pretty good so I just kept writing to sharpen my writing skills. I picked the rap name NoStress because of the feeling I got from expressing how I felt through my music. Before heading back to school, I started researching how recording studios were built and bought my own equipment. I had the studio set up in my dorm closet. I spent the next three years of engineering for myself and other artists on campus.

During that time, I met another artist named Duke LaRon, at a hip hop cypher audition. We started making music together and he told me I should look into joining Ways of Real Discovery (W.O.R.D.) to work on performing. Later that year we formed a rap duo called FROST GANG. We did a number of performances around campus and gained a following. Before I graduated in December of 2017, we made plans to drop a joint mixtape called Rouge Sound Ninja. We released it in January 2018. A month later, I released my first solo project, Shot in the Dark.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ve had somewhat of a smooth road up until recently. I was in the middle of putting together my second mixtape and within two months both my hard drive, with three years of music and other media projects on it, and laptop crashed. On top of that, I had projects that I was working on for clients that I could never give them because everything was erased. Thank God my clients were very understanding but it was still heartbreaking to lose all that work.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with NoStress – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Aside from being an independent hip hop artist, I work as a freelance videographer/photographer under NoStress Zone Productions. In 2017, I graduated from Savannah State University to earn my bachelor’s degree in mass communication with a concentration in audio/video. That’s where I found a love for visual storytelling/art. I don’t really specialize in anything specifically. I like to be well rounded in every area possible. I’ve done sports highlights, music videos, event recaps, a few commercials and even an engagement photoshoot. What sets me apart is my attention to detail to any project I’m a part of.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Right now, I’m in the process of putting together my second project, TRUST the Process (no pun intended). It’s going to be my first self-engineered project but it definitely won’t be the last. I don’t really have any plans but I do have a great feeling about the music I’ve been working on. If it takes me anywhere positive, I’ll take that road for sure.
