Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlyn Sadberry.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ashlyn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started selling hair back in March 2019 when I was working a regular 9-5. I only started selling hair because I was behind on all my bills and about to be evicted for a 2nd time within one year. I witnessed the company that I was working for make over one million dollars in less than 30 days and I could not stop thinking about the little $400/week I was getting from it.
I started taking it more serious when I made $500 in one hour from ONE client thus Hottie Hair Company was born. I would post on my Instagram every day and then I had three bundle deals for $100 which nobody was able to beet my prices, I was basically giving the hair away just to build up my clientele. To set myself apart, I started to keep hair on hand so that I was able to process orders the same day offering same-day shipping and same day pick up and delivery.
I want to set myself apart because, in the beauty industry, people like to say that it too saturated but my mindset is that its enough money and customers for everyone. I like to tell people about my business in person, giving them a more personal experience. I have handpicked distributors in Houston, Atlanta and Detroit; so hair cane be ordered online, picked up in person or they can schedule a delivery with someone that they are familiar with. I live in between Detroit and Atlanta because I am currently working on opening up a storefront.
Starting Hottie Hair Company changed my life. I went from making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and snatching eviction notices off my front door to traveling entrepreneur.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like I said when I first started I was riding the MARTA train, I barely had somewhere to live and I was working a dead-end job. It has been a lot of growing pains and learning things the hard way but I wouldn’t change a thing. As a business owner even mistakes that I don’t make, I have to fix.
Small shipping mistakes, packages getting lost, etc. The hardest transition has been expanding my business to Michigan because it’s forcing me to think outside the box with reaching and attaining new customers.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Hottie Hair Company story. Tell us more about the business.
Hottie Hair Company is a hair extensions supplier specializing in premium Brazilian bundles, wigs, clip-in extensions, lashes and more!
My three bundles specials that are always priced VERY well are probably what I am the most known for. My prices are affordable and are for every day “hottie” – not everyone has $300+ for bundles and then another $200 to pay the hairstylist to install. I always try to offer my customers the best price possible while not compromising the hair quality.
Aside for my competitive prices, what sets me apart from everyone else is that I offer same day shipping with free Priority Shipping, same day pick up services and Drop off (Delivery).
Instead of having storefronts everywhere, I have distributors that service a region for same-day pick and drop off. Providing a face to face experience, essentially the customer does not have to leave the beauty salon or their homes to receive hair and FAST.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I do not need luck, it’s all about alignment. My life is always in alignment. I try to always do right by my distributors and customers so good things happen to people that put out good, positive energy.
For example, one time I was flying to Detroit on a Friday, I use an exclusive Printer Fresh Baked Prints which is based out of Detroit, MI, I had a hair showcase the next day and I NEEDED my flyers and banner but they only stayed open until 7 pm. My flight ended up landing late and I had to call a million times on my forever dying iPhone. They ended up meeting me Saturday morning, in which they were closed so I believe my life just aligned perfectly enough for them to help me out and let me pick up my banners.
Another time is when my god-sister tagged me in a random hairstylist on Instagram, he was looking for someone with a specific texture and had it on hand on Detroit, MI. I ended up connecting with him and come to find out it was K.Michelle’s stylist and the hair was from her.
