Today we’d like to introduce you to Jillian Penn.
Jillian, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always had a passion for nails, especially my own nails — I am a SUPER PICKY person when it comes to nails and it just never crossed my mind that I could actually do them myself until the beginning of this year …. it started as just a thought “can I do my own nails” after years of college switching and majors over and over, wondering what my purpose was, moving across the country and back again and trying to find myself again after having a baby I finally decided to take a risk and open my own business! I have a 19 months old daughter… everything I do is for her and I want her to look up to me and be proud. I officially started doing nails in may of 2019 and I am just so grateful for all the love and support my business has received in just over six months, I am proud of my growth in every aspect of my business from the quality of nails to clientele growth, just everything.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, my support system is very small so there were times when I had to cancel appointments because I had no one to watch my daughter and times when I had to asks friends for help too and a lot of people don’t know I struggle with high anxiety, and this year was a really bad year for me, even though I am very blessed every other month something bad happened to me.
Nailedxjill – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a self-taught licensed nail technician and I specialize in all acrylic nails. From short to long, I do them all. I love doing long nails that’s my passion the longer the better honestly. I offer basic sets with add ons of just about anything you can think of and freestyle’s… which is my favorite thing to do because each set is unique and custom to the client. I am so proud of how much my clientele has grown is such a short time. The nails I do are quality nails, I am a perfectionist and when it comes to shape, well that’s the main reason people book! I never rush with any client I really take my time as if I was doing my own nails, people are paying good money for nails that are not only bomb asf but last 3-4 weeks and my nails last! I have a lot of reviews on my Instagram.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Finally getting nails to look the way I want them to look, with an apex and clean around the cuticle and consistency I am so proud of how consistent I have been in the growth that I’ve had doing nails.
