Meet David Mitchell Jr of Ace of Spades Podcast in Smyrna

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Mitchell Jr.

David, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My interest in people of affluence and success started after having read Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki in 2006. In 2009 three months after my 18th birthday, I started a company called DMJ Universal. DMJ Universal was a social networking site with similar functions as Facebook. Its purpose was to connect everyday individuals with professionals. One who wished to know more about a specific career field could go on the website and ask questions. We would then interview a person working in the said field to answer questions posed on the website. The interviews were then posted on the website and YouTube.

My first three interviews were with some of the individuals I admired the most at the time; my high school principal, a fitness director and a short film director from my hometown. The idea of DMJ Universal seemed promising at the time but I quickly came to realize that the future of such concept seemed more appealing on a platform like YouTube as opposed to the website I had created. YouTube evolved over the years from a music platform to a “video Google”. The emergence of “how to” videos opened a window of opportunity to better focus on shining a light on people who were looking for empowerment and self-development. Ace of Spades was born in late 2010 as I scrapped the idea of DMJ Universal.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle I faced was getting comfortable on camera. It’s the primary reason I’m not on camera in any of the earlier interviews. I told myself it was just to focus on the person I was interviewing but I wanted a more relational setting for my platform. I started practicing frequently and posting short motivational clips on YouTube and Instagram to combat this issue.

We are always looking to raise the bar and bring quality guests on the show who can deliver the ideas and concepts that have allowed them to reach their level of success.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood would have to be the revelation I received after reading Rich Dad Poor Dad. Paul Donnelly, my family attorney recommended it to me. It changed my focus and changed the direction of my life. I honestly don’t know what I would be doing right now if it weren’t for this book.
