Meet Chloe Cain

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chloe Cain.

Chloe, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
At age 21, I was sitting at my college graduation without a sense of my true identity, a plan or a purpose- I felt like my life was worthless. I was no longer defined by the major I studied or the numbers on my soccer jersey. I was just an ordinary girl with an extraordinary dream walking into a world full of dreamers.

After graduating, I stepped out on faith to pursue my dream of entrepreneurship. During the first few months, I was broke. I was unemployed. I had an identity crisis. I was depressed. I got scammed. I lived miles away from my family and I was rejected from countless media companies. It got so low, I applied for a job at Mcdonald’s- working here isn’t a bad thing, I just knew that I was destined to make a bigger impact using my God-given gift of telling stories using media. I quickly realized that even though I had a college degree that I still was not truly free. I had two options: Stay in the darkness or ignite my light?

Through this dark moment in my life, I found something a job couldn’t take away- my life’s purpose. Through grace and favor, I confidently embarked on the next steps of my journey. I accepted an opportunity to pursue my Master’s Degree in Business Administration while working as a Graduate Assistant at my former Alma Mater, Mount St. Mary’s University. For me, this was God giving me another chance to manifest my dream into reality. I found the reason why I was sitting in that graduation seat- It was to use my light to inspire others to ignite their own.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As a young entrepreneur, I have struggled with impatience during the process of building my dream. Nobody told me about the struggle that was gonna come before success. I was meeting so many successful people owning businesses who were their own boss. I even interned as a videographer working for a wealthy social media influencer. I was so blinded by their success that I lost sight of the struggle that it actually took to be where they are- they were 10-15 year overnight successes. I placed this overwhelming unrealistic expectation on myself that I had to achieve my dreams right after college or else I was a failure.

I found out quickly that the road to greatness requires patience and perseverance. I remember during one of my lowest moments after college when I had no clients and was making no money, I remember typing in my notes “What’s inside of me is so much more valuable than the $0.00 in my bank account. I am rich in passion, creativity, love, gratitude, drive, and wisdom.” It was moments like these where I had to have faith in the vision God showed me even though it was dark. There were other times where I almost threw in the towel, but God threw the towel back at me because I would always receive a positive message from someone who was touched when watching one of my videos. For me, it was my relationship with God that sustained my spirit in struggle moments. God is the light in my darkness, the hope in my struggle, the grace in my grind, and the savior of my life. I wouldn’t have had the courage to move forward without his protection and direction down this unfamiliar path.

From my journey so far, I have learned to slow cook my dream like my mom’s pot roast instead of microwaving it for two minutes like a ramen noodle cup, which I think most of my generation does. Everyone is so anxious for the promise, but no one is willing to go through the process. The process brings pain, joy, suffering, discouragement, love, wisdom, and a whole lot more. I believe this is what truly builds character. Great character builds great teams leading to even better businesses, which I believe creates a better world. Yvonne Orji once said, “Don’t allow your gifts and talents to take you somewhere where your character can’t sustain you.” I have developed a genuine love and joy in the process of building my business because I know my character is being built for the better. In a generation driven by chasing Instagram clout, covering pain with filters, and posting to look successful, I recognize the importance of staying true to the process of building a real legacy that transcends social media while making a major impact on the world.

Welcome to the bright side.

What were you like growing up?
From an early age, I was extremely shy until I stepped on the soccer field at age four thanks to the encouragement of my mother. My personality blossomed to life every time I touched the soccer ball. It was this high-energy rush, freedom, and love that came from playing the game. My mother felt it too, she was my biggest cheerleader on the sideline at every single game. Off the field, her and my father were hardworking and diligent in pushing my siblings and I to do our very best in whatever we put our minds too. We weren’t the richest family on the block, but we were wealthy in love, creativity, determination, and hustle. I took all of these driving forces into the game of soccer and beyond.

In high school, I was an aspiring environmental engineer until I almost failed out of physics. I was one day asked to fill in for the morning news announcements. It was this moment where I fell in love with telling stories in front of the camera and behind it. I begin to create videos documenting my story, broadcasting LIVE at events, and posting videos on social media. I even used my soccer journey as a platform to create stories for my team. During my senior year, I landed a full-ride athletic scholarship to play Division 1 soccer in college. I used my passion for soccer as my ticket into college where I had the opportunity to master my craft of telling stories. I produced multiple videos for campus departments, I was a media personality for the campus radio station, and I serviced students who were in need of senior pictures. These experiences marked the beginning of my journey into media and entrepreneurship.
