Meet Edaaja Sutton of Dumb Aliens Clothing in Austell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edaaja Sutton.

Edaaja, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It’s as simple as this: I decided to paint on a few t-shirts one afternoon, spent a week on them, then posted them on my Instagram. Everybody loved them & they even got BOUGHT, they sold out pretty fast, too. Then, a few months later, I posted about starting a clothing line & threw out a couple possible names. Initially, it was a joke, but the feedback was so positive I figured why not? And thus, dumb aliens was born.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Considering dumb aliens is still in its baby stages, I would say the whole process is a bumpy road. I still have to create more product to show people, I have to get the name out there, and for that I need motivation. I like to think I have more than enough support from my friends and family, though.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Dumb Aliens Clothing – what should we know?
The goal I have for dumb aliens clothing is for it to be the clothes that old people give the side-eye to. I figure I’m not going to please everybody, not that I’m trying to, so I may as well embrace it. I’m also not saying I plan on putting out “controversial” designs either. I just want to make graphic t-shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, possibly even sneakers one day— for the teenagers & young adults that simply don’t care about what others think. The ones that know they look good in what they’re wearing and will rock it till they die. That ONE person in the group of friends that’ll go “I mean, I’d wear it!” I’m proud that so far, I’m appealing to that EXACT demographic and I like to think my prices & overall aesthetic are what’s gonna make me stand out the most.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Catering to the right people, keeping my designs simple yet unique. And also remembering that, yes, not everybody is going to like my designs. Not everybody is going to want to buy them. Also, a constant array of new designs, I’m going to have to be consistent with releases.
