Meet Tracey Moss

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracey Moss.

Tracey, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up in Miami, FL, traveling to Atlanta, Ga to attend the hbcu Morris Brown College. I received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and decided to leap of faith to follow my passion of being a hairstylist. With a four year degree, student loans, and monthly bills a common hairstylist was not an option. On the first day of cosmetology school, I set a high standard to succeed. From strategic salon selections to being accepted as an exchange hairstylist in Europe, music videos, to hair care education and now a tv and film hairstylist were all results of the standards that were initially created. Exploring the world of hair was my goal. .Making a plan, implementing small goals, and staying connected with like minds were all catalysts that perpetuated me to go from level to level in my career as a hairstylist.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road of a freelance hairstylist is never an easy task, most if not all my goals were beyond my knowledge of what I set to accomplish. The science of hair requires education, and the art of hairstyling is forever changing. .Consistent training and education was something I did not realize was an ongoing continuous cycle. The process of working toward being a member of IATSE 798 hair and makeup to become a hairstylist for tv and motion pictures was one of the hardest and most rewarding unanticipated challenges I encountered.

IASTE 798 for the east coast is the crème de le crème for hair and makeup artist so I was determined to be apart of such an elite group of hair and makeup professionals. To become apart of this group the requirement is to be a member to work however you are unable to work if your not a member. So the challenge was to remain persistent, stay sufficient in my craft, professional and pray that God opens a door and He did, My first tv production 2009 was Tyler Perry “Meet the Browns” three years later by the grace of God I was selected to become a member of IATSE 798 and the rest was history.

Please tell us about your business.
I am a 15 year tv and film hairstylist. I specialize in telling a creative story through the art of hair. I create characters from everyday people to glamor, sci-fii, horror, fantasy, and period hairstyling. I am grateful for every project that I’ve been apart of. A few of the projects that I am thrilled about is Bad Boys 3, Black Panther, Guardian Of The Galaxy, Shaft, and Hunger Games. What sets me apart from others is having the ability to execute a vision. The story is already created, writers, directors, creatives, and talent all have an image of what they want to be delivered when it comes to hair and the hair department. It is my mission to listen to the objective and combine my expertise to follow through with the story from the hair department.

What are your plans for the future?
January 2020 I will be the author of “Styling By Faith”. It is a self help guide for entrepreneurs, creatives, business professionals and anyone who has dreams and desires to reach goals. I will be giving strategic tips, through my journey, enlightening, and encouraging individuals to birth that gift or finally take the leap to secure a win.
