Missy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
“God is my designer and I was his Masterpiece!” Known as Masterpieces By Missy LLC, I am Missy Hooks. The historic, musical city of Florence, Alabama will always be home and as a twenty-four-year-old stylist with eight years of experience in the industry. Hair was just a hobby that I used as a side hustle to help pay my way through college and now it has turned into a beautiful Masterpiece.
I obtained an Associate in Applied Science Degree and received a Salon and Spa certificate as well from NWSCC Community College. I also obtained a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science Physiology from the University of North Alabama! Being a college grad has made a big impact on my hair business and I must say the support from my fellow colleagues is absolutely phenomenal!
The same woman that was braiding hair as a hobby is now building an empire! Slaying wigs, braids, natural hair and more for all cultures. Mastering hair was just a dream and now it’s reality and I am beyond grateful for my business.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road hasn’t been easy. With no investors and running my business by myself it gets hard. Balancing out products, doing hair, sales, store runs, product runs and much more is a challenge. While being in school and still running a business it gets hard but I keep pushing. I keep God first.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Masterpieces by Missy story. Tell us more about the business.
Masterpieces by Missy is known for being beautiful and providing services that make every woman feel like a masterpiece… I sell many products such as: Edge Control, argan oil, shampoo and conditioner, edge wraps, edge combs, flat irons and mink eyelashes. I am proud of my company because I provide excellent services to my clients and customers. I make everyone feel special. What sets me apart from others is that I am me. No one can be me or do what I do the way I do it. That what makes me successful.
