Today we’d like to introduce you to Jade, Asia and Lori.
Jade, Asia and Lori, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Honestly, the Triflin But True podcast started in our living room. All three of us are roommates and our daily routines consisted of coming home from work, unwinding and talking about our day. Some of these conversations led us down long rabbit holes of funny yet meaningful heart to hearts about real shit (idk if we can use profanity but…here we are lol). One day we just decided that somebody needed to hear the stuff we were talking about! Conversations that the majority of women have within their own circles, that men needed to hear as well as conversations about women that men would want to hear.
Believe it or not, we have a pretty grandiose audience of men and I think it’s because of the things that we talk about. We don’t just sit and point blame at men but also take accountability for how women across the board aren’t perfect and that’s just the reality of our world. No matter your viewpoint on our topics, we stand on what we put out there but also LOVE hearing other people’s perspectives and insights which is seen through a lot of our guest episodes.
Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a podcast requires A LOT of discipline and time management. Even though we love recording for the podcast, it can be difficult since all three of us are full time working women. To fit time into our schedules to record an episode or visual content can sometimes be demanding. The most important advice for women (and men) looking to start a podcast or any creative business/brand would be to just do it. Don’t let anyone try to deter you or talk you out of it (not even yourself!), just go all in and go for it.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Triflin But True story. Tell us more about the business.
All three of us are young, black, college-educated women each specializing in different areas – business analytics, marketing and the health field for our day jobs. What we are most proud of, of course, is Triflin But True and what it stands for. Our brand name represents the “you were thinking it, but we said it” kind of mentality. Most of our conversations get real TRIFLIN’ but are completely authentic and are much-needed conversations to be had – which tends to set us apart from others.
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
Personally (this is Jade), I’ve been most inspired by my mother and grandmother. I don’t really look to celebrities or Instagram models as a source of inspiration (except when it comes to tryin’ to get my body snatched) because that oftentimes provides a false sense of reality. I’ve been most inspired by their resilience and perseverance to move through life’s obstacles as if they were just feathers in the wind – while still keeping what is most important in life at the forefront.
