Life and Work with Summer Jackson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Summer Jackson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Summer. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I was around the age of 19 I was having very bad breakouts. It was so bad that even going to the dermatologist, the medications I was prescribed did nothing but dry my skin out and make me have bad reactions. That’s how I knew I wanted to create something of my own. I did nothing from that moment forward but research and perfect my formula and finally, in the fall of 2019, I got it right! I decided to create a business to help others who have dealt with the same issues as mine.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting out it wasn’t as easy as some would think. I always second-guessed myself and ways I could start my business. I used my inspiration from other brands and decided to go ahead and follow my heart. You have to be devoted to your craft! Even now I’m still researching different herbs and ways to help my business flourish. My advice to the women and particularly young women is to “do it “! Don’t live a life of “what if I would’ve followed my heart and created something of my own”. Be fearless.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with SummerJean&Co – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
My company name is SummerJean&Co. I specialize in creating vegan handmade skin products! My brand is known for its Restoring Face Serum. I’m very proud of the amount of support I have gotten from social media, friends, and my family. I’m also very proud of the fact my brand is slowly, but surely flourishing right before my eyes. If my younger self saw any of this happening I would be in shock. I believe the thing that sets me apart from others is; I’m not afraid to step out of the box and try things that others won’t. If there’s a set back I move forward and try again.

Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
I feel the biggest barrier for female leadership is that there are many gender stereotypes. Many would think that women are just emotional creatures, incapable of living of life of multi-tasking and being leaders. But we are so much more than that!
